• Storm!

    25 augustus 2024, Fiji ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Sunday we woke up and did a relaxing yoga workout. We had our breakfast and delicious guava juice 😋
Headed back to the room and decided to swim in the ocean. I collected beach treasures (that Erik made me put back because it was disturbing the Fiji beach and one day there may not be anymore rocks and seashells 😑). Anyway, I splashed around with Erik, got sandy butt cheeks and looked for hermit crabs. We then headed on our second snorkeling adventure. I was super nervous because a storm was coming so the water was choppy, and because my eyes burned so bad the last time. Erik assured me I would be okay. We adjusted my mask before we got on the boat so I felt more confident just nervous I would vomit on the boat. Erik and I also went over under the water signs. The signs were for “up” “shark” “turtle” “fish” and “ I’m okay”.
Everyone loaded up on the boat and this time they went over safety rules. They showed us where the life jackets were, first aid kits, and to make sure the reef was always to the left of us. They also apologized because we were suppose to go to two other reefs but a large storm was coming in.
It was better this time for me! I saw so many turtles and a reef shark! The ocean was getting very choppy so we had to get back on the boat a bit early. We came back to the main area for drinks, laid down on a couch outside and fell asleep. We woke up to the sound of a bunch of new people coming and walked back to our room also the rain was starting.
We washed up and saw a bunch of rain and wind come in but also wanted to take advantage of happy hour and we had an ocean front dinner reservation! Grabbed the umbrellas and rapidly walked to the main area. We saw some frogs bouncing around that I thought was fun.
We took out a game and started playing Scattegories . A young couple next to us said that our game looked like fun and they joined in. Marissa and Kevin are from Walnut Creek, California and were currently living two blocks from Pier 39 in San Fransisco. They lived a nice basic California life paying 10 grand a month in rent for their apartment with their chihuahua. They thought Erik and I lived a super cool life in Bend and wished they had opportunities to live in a small town with lakes, hiking, and skiing.
The storm got wild. Big bursts of thunder, wind ,and a downpour of rain. I wasn’t able to capture it but it’ll be a storm I’ll never forget. It was a fun night with wine games and laughing❤️ Instead of a romantic sashimi and champagne dinner we had a lovely dinner inside away from the storm. Big lobster tails and salad.
We grabbed our umbrellas to head back to the room when suddenly I saw something jump….then I saw multiple things jump. There were toads EVERYWHERE. It was pouring rain, super windy, with toads hopping around .
I kicked several on accident while walking and definitely screamed 😖 I basically screamed the whole way back to the room 🙃
