  • Day 159: Potosi

    Another hard day. A lot of climbing and 100 km. It is really tough but also rewarding. It feels good to put the leggs to their limits and make some progress. But now we need a shower, food and some rest. The last two days were exhausting.Read more

  • Day 165: Down.

    Comming from the bolivian altiplano we managed to get a bit lower. In the 110 km we did, we came to 2300 m altitude. It was great to finally have a bit warmer weather. Trees started apearing again the streams actually contained water and farmers planted crops. It was a lot of fun to see those things again.Read more

  • Day 166: Sucre

    Why do they always build the cities on top of an hill. Both Pitosi and Sucre with Potosi being the worst have steep busy streets that make entering the cities on a touringbike a hell. But we made it to Sucre. Weakend by the bolivian food we took it wasy today. A lot of climbing in the 45 km but bwautifull senery as well. Now we are in Sucre and will stay here for 2 days to relax and repair the bikes. After that on to Santa Cruz. To the warm weather again.Read more

  • Day 169: Down the Valey.

    Spending 3 nights in a touristic hostel was a lot of fun. It involved a lot of alcohol and a good party. But it felt good to be back on the road. Going down means warmer weather. And we can use a bit of warmth. In the morning we quickly extended our Visa for Bolivia with 30 days. On our way back to the hostel we were blocked by a parade of police, military and firefighters. So in the end we left at 12 but still managed to make 80 km. 10 km more than our goal to reach Santa Cruz in time.Read more

  • Day 170: Sprechen sie Deutsch?

    Another day on beautifull asfalt roads in the Sun. After a slow start and a leaking tire we made it to a small rural town to find some suplies and water. We were a serious atraction with people pointing and laughing at us. Another bolivian cyclist and ask if we spoke german or Spannish. So we had a great conversation in sparman.Read more

  • Day 171: Dust, Sweat and Sunscreen

    This morning we caught up with the Asfalt Crew. So ripio again! The road was beautifull and hard. Our new sunscreen was extea sticky so the dust kept stiking to our bodies. We bought a 2 euro lunch with soup, rice, fries and a piece of meat in one of the towns we passed. After Lunch we noticed that Bobs tire was flat again. But we didnt find any sharp pieces in the tire. Because of the long lunch and flat tire we only made 55 km. And at the end of the day bobs tire was flat again. After looking for half an hour we found a miniscule piece of metal. So mystery solved. Hopefully a shower tomorow because we feel so dirty.Read more

  • Day 171: Dustiest road ever

    We started again this morning after what we thought was our dustiest day ever. But we were wrong. The whole day we were biting the dust. When we got to a town for lunch we were looked anf lauged at. We looked ridiculous. But after another 2 dollar lunch we were back in the dust. The mixture of 4 days of sunscreen and sweat made that the dust sticked really good yo our bodies. But in the end of the day we found a hospedeje with a cold shower.Read more

  • Day 173: Crazy Santa Cruz

    Leaving at 10 after a chilling breakfast we made good progress. We managed to make the 120 km in less than 6 hours. But getting into the biggest city in Bolivia was a hell. Cars, busses and motorbikes everywhere. We had to fight for our place on the road. But we managed to find a hostel.Read more

  • Day 179: 18 hour bus ride.

    18 hours not moving our leggs in a bus. It is not really something we are used doing so it presented to be a real challenge.

    Santa Cruz had be3n good to us. We made somr new friends and saw some intresting things. But it is time to move on. So we made it to La Paz. Firdt a bit of rest and then we will ride to Peru. New country new stamp in our passport and new adventures.Read more

  • Day 185: Out of La Paz.

    Bob got sick in La Paz. So we ended up spending almost a week there. But finally the time came to leave. Although Bob was not yet completely back to normal strength. But he would recover on the road. The start was brutal. Straight out of the hostel climbing to El Alto. But in the end we managed to do arounf 50 km. Not to bad for a first day.Read more

  • Day 185: Today is gonna be flat, right?

    After a good night sleep in a construction site we set out for Copacabana. The idea was to get there. But not totally recovered we would see how far we could get. At 3:30 we crossed the lake and with 39 km to go we decided to make it. But the climbing turned out to be a bit more than expected. But just when the sun started to set we entered the city.Read more

  • Day 187: Into Peru.

    Anothet border crossing. The Bolivian border guard didnt understand the stamp we got for our extension. So he wanted us to pay 4 euro per day of overstay. But after some discussion and the help of his supervisor we convinced him that it was okay. So an hour waiting at the perivian border we could finaly make it into Peru. Still not completely fit we only made 60 km. But still a good day on the bike.Read more

  • Day 188: Puno

    The time here in peru is one hour behind what it was in Bolivia. But being on the bike we have to work with the daylight we have. So instead of 7 we wake up at 6 now. To make sure we have enough daylight. But today it wasnt a problem. We made it to Puno before 2 and were installed in a hostel before 3. So good day on the bike. But we need some good rest now.Read more

  • Day 189: Busy, Boring, Ugly road.

    A nice breakfast in our hostel in Puno. Made that we were ready for a day in the sadle. The road was boring and really busy. But a good shoulder made that it was kinda safe to ride. After a really ugly busy town we made it to the hills. Or do we call it mountains if it is above 4000 meters? We found a kinda okay place to camp next to the river with two other swiss cyclists. Hopefully tomorow a nicer day.Read more

  • Day 190: Sadle soreness.

    Today was another not that intresting day. Mostly flat and straight. But a bit less traffic. Ninos brooks sadle broke a couple of weeks ago. So now he rides on a South American noname brand sadle. But he isn't to happy about it. Sadle soreness is a big problem these days. But it is only 220 km to Cusco. We are still deciding if we want to do it in 2 or 3 days. But i guess we will figure it out tomorow.Read more

  • Day 191: Finally some climbing

    Setting out from our foxhole campingspot we finally had some nice mountains in our view. We had to climb to 4300 meters. But the climb was steady and not to steep. So without to much effort we made it to the top. We were stared at by the bus tourists. But the road got smaller and traffic intensified. So with no place to camp we made it to some small hospedeje. Tomorow we will try to make a push for Cusco. But it is still 120 km away.Read more

  • Day 192: Angry dogs and crazy trucks.

    Only 120 km to go to Cusco. So we set out early to make some progress. But the road was busy with crazy cars and the dogs didnt seem to like is today. Every town there was atleast one charging at us barking. So stop, bark back, swinging a stick and trowing stones. It became a nice routine. But we made it to the busy town of Cusco. We decided to chill out on the main square. Which turned out to be Gringo central. In the hour we sat there 4 people came talking with us about our trip. So we decided to find a hostel.   • Day 196: Lima

    A 22 hour busride brought us to Lima. Not so much sleep on this uncomfortable busride. But we managed to get our bikea halfway across peru. Now we are looking for another bus to Huaraz for tomorow. We will ride some of the Cordillera Blanca. But tomorow will be independence day here. Wo we will see if it works.Read more

  • Day 197: Another bus.

    Yesterday it was independence day in peru. But the busses still rode. Sonwe took a bus to Huaraz. After some negotiation wengot our bikes on the bus as well. Getting to huaraz at 6 in the morning. We tried to find a hostel. But everything was booked full. Aparently everybody travels for the independence weekend. So no choice. We have to go cycling today.Read more

  • Day 199: Into the Cordillera Blanca

    Yesterday we saw it in the distance, the Cordillera Blanca. Today we cycled among the snowypeaks. The roaf was really rough. Big boulders all over the place. It being independence weekend didnt make things easier. A lot of families in big cars going up as well. But after a hard day on the road we made it to the laguna. More than 1000m of climbing.   • Day 200: Hairpin bends everywhere!

    Setting out early because we had to be gonr before the first tourist came in. We managed to get the first 5 kinda flatish km in before 9. After that things got crazy. The road got really bad and steep. It felt like it was a 1000 hairpinbends to the top. But we made it. Another time to more than 4700 m. And the scenery was great. It made the hard day worth it. Going down was almost as hard as going up. Big boulders everywhere. So after 10 km of downhill we called it a day.Read more

  • Day 201: Needed all daylight

    Today we started with alot of down hill, the road was still rough. Big rocks and loose stones make progress very slow. Altough, after the lunch it was cycling up again. We wanted to make it to a small vallige after te crossing to the pass we want to do tomorrow. But 66 km is pretty far on these bad roads. But we made it just in time. Tomorrow morning we will start a little bit down hill until the crossing and from the crossing it will be pavement again. And up again.Read more

  • Day 202: 4700m. Up and over.

    We made it tot the pavement. So although it was a hard climb. We managed to get over it and back down to town. The climb was hard but steady. On the top it was cold and qe had some rain, snow and hail. But the fast decent. Made up for all of the hardship. We managed to get back to town just before it became dark. So some chicken with fries and a good nights sleep.Read more
