Iceland in October

Spontaneously booked the ferry on my birthday end of April without even having a car. :-) Since then busy building a rig (Mercedes ML W163), preparing the route and then traveling a totally different route. Stay flexible. Read more
  • Básar of Þórsmörk in Goðaland

    October 13, 2025 in Iceland ⋅ 🌫 8 °C

Básar is the base camp of Þórsmörk (the border mark of the god Thor) in Goðaland (the Land of Gods). Sounds like a mouth full - and it is. Just getting there can be an adventure but the hike across the mountain is a thing of its own. Apparently there is a special micro climate that makes walking a bit nasty at times.

But worth it all the way. 😃

FindPenguins is not so fond of video clips so I'll make another little Youtube movie. But this has to wait until I'm on the ferry...

  • Back on the ferry in Seyðisfjörður

    October 16, 2025 in Iceland ⋅ 🌙 5 °C

Everything has an end, only the sausage has two (a literal translation of a proverb in Germany.. ;-). So yes, today is the end of my travel in Iceland. But I'm not sad but full of great impressions and the calmness and wildness at the same time will stay with me for a long time. Great experience throughout! Thank you Iceland and my wife for letting me go and my company for tolerating my spotty internet during work times and everybody else who helped me get the rig off the ground and working. Especially Martin from Hoffmann Kfz in Solla-Loh who professionally lifted the rear with 17 mm rings, installed new shocks, changed all fluids and did quite a lot of other things. The Bichler family for helping paint the car and tolerating my occupying their garage for several weekends. Armin for helping me get the auxiliary heating and underride protection installed. My brother for helping and hosting my tools during my trip and everybody else who supported me and made my dream come true!

    Thank you so much!

  • Aurora Borealis

    October 16, 2025 in Iceland ⋅ 🌙 6 °C

Technically not on mainland Iceland but probably still within the nautical borders we got a really nice show. How cool is that? This was a first for me (and I seen lotsa things). Started almost imperceptible and then grew into a full blast. So thankful, yet again. 😃Read more
