First Full Day

We kept getting rained out but we got outside as much as we could today. My Dad and Jackson got the kayaks out that came with the cottage for a trip along the shoreline. We also attempted to go tubing but Jackson and I were the only ones who got to go before another downpour started. Luckily we weren’t too far from shore when it started but we all definitely were drenched and frozen.
We’ve got a lot of use out of the hot tub. It’s been a little too cold for swimming in the lake. Swimming was attempted a few times though.
We finished the evening off with a game of Phase 10 Twist once the kids went to bed. Dad normally comes in last but won for the first time.Read more

Barry’s Bay

It rained even more today. We did get some hot tub time in again and took a trip to Barry’s Bay, but we spent the rest of the day in the cottage. Luckily, the cottage is amazing, so we have lots of space when we’re stuck inside.
In Barry’s Bay we just picked up some groceries and went to The Hungry Pig for lunch. Which was delicious.
We finished the day by starting a game of Settlers of Catan.Read more

Cottage Day

The guys went fishing this morning but Rob was the only one who caught anything but the smallmouth bass was too small to keep.
It was a quieter morning but after lunch my parents and I headed out for a tour of the lake. We went along the shore of one section to look at the cottages. My mom had her usual need for speed when she’s in a boat.
After we came back, some of the guys went in the water and splashed around with my nephew.
We finished the night by finishing our game of Settlers of Catan (Dad won) and starting another game.Read more

Barry’s Bay

We started the morning off with some vacuum entertainment. A few people were highly entertained watching the vacuum that was programmed to clean at 10am today. We then went for a swim.
We attempted tubing again and like always, something went wrong. Jackson and Rob both went. As I was getting in, the boat ran out of gas. Luckily we weren’t too far from the cottage. I didn’t get to go tubing but I had a nice relaxing float back to the cottage while the guys rowed. We were already planning on heading back into Barry’s Bay for dinner so we were also able to get more gas.
Before dinner, we walked around Barry’s Bay a bit. Exploring some of the shops. Not surprisingly we found Carley Fortune books in many stores. We also found one of the benches dedicated to characters from her books. My mom saw on Facebook that she was in one of the stores signing her books that we visited today at the same time we were in Barry’s Bay the other day.
Dinner was at the Balmoral Hotel. We definitely got some attitude for the size of our group… when the restaurant was almost completely empty. The food however was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meals.
We once again finished the night with Settlers of Catan after the kids were asleep. Mom won the game we started the night before and we started another.Read more

Water Day

Today was one of the nicer weather days, so we spent lots of time outside. Yesterday in Barry’s Bay Jackson and I picked up a snorkel for Johnny after he saw us using ours and really wanted one. He did amazingly well with it, and even if he wasn’t using the snorkel, I kept the goggles on to keep water out of his nose while he was playing.
Once the kids were napping, we attempted tubing again after getting more gas for the boat. Dad and I both got to go this time and Jackson went again. It’s definitely a smooth easy ride but hard on the legs when you have to kneel.
Next up was the canoe and kayak. We brought our own canoe but Dad and I used theirs. Jackson used one of their kayaks. We went along the Opeongo River until we hit a dam and had to go back.
We took the boat out again for an evening adventure. Looking at the cottages lit up at night. We ended up racing the rain back and didn’t really beat it. It wasn’t a heavy rain until we got back inside though.Read more

Final Day

Our final day was a quiet one. Not the best weather so we spent most of the day indoors. We did get one last nice boat adventure in the evening.

We got to have a slower morning than originally planned. We were supposed to be out of the cottage by 11am but the owner let us know that nobody was checking in after us, so we could head out whenever we wanted.
Jackson and I got to hot tub and Dad and Johnny got to play in the water one last time.
We took a longer way home through Cloyne and had dinner at the Lakeside Inn. We made it home around 9:30pm.Read more
