  • Day177

    Cooma, New South Wales

    August 25, 2016 in Australia

We were fairly relaxed all day and therefore didn’t realise how quickly it was becoming dark, still not knowing where we would spend the night. As the night descended so did the rain and by the time we pulled up into a roadside gravel pit it was almost snowing outside so we set up as quickly as we could with numb fingers and noses and settled for sandwiches for dinner before trying every means of warming up and eventually dozing off whilst wearing layer upon layer including our heavy winter coats. The following morning, still incredibly fresh, provided us with spectacular views of the mountains around us and we enjoyed the scenery even more over a hot breakfast of sausages, eggs, tomato, avocado and toast. It was only 5 hours to Sale and the weather had made up our mind about when to head home. The trip had come to an end and we headed home looking forward to connecting with family and friends once again before our next adventure takes us away.Read more

  • Day177

    Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

    August 25, 2016 in Australia

The drive seemed fairly easy so we just kept going, getting to Canberra in the mid afternoon where we took some photos, walked around Parliament House and had some delicious ice cream despite the 10-degree weather.

  • Day176

    Sydney, New South Wales

    August 24, 2016 in Australia

Another long day found us in Sydney where we were glad of the use of a camp kitchen and power, which we utilised to watch movies as the rain continued to make mud everywhere and fill up our floor with puddles. Waking up in the night and stepping into icy water with bare feet is one way to wake you up! We spent the following day doing some sightseeing in town before jumping back on the road again.Read more

  • Day175

    Kempsey, New South Wales

    August 23, 2016 in Australia

The rain began and it did not cease! Stopping only a couple times including once at Coffs Harbour we got some distance behind us doing over 4 hours before setting up for the night whilst the rain continued to soak everything. Definitely starting to notice the drop in temperature we were both keen for an early night and warm blankets to hide in.Read more

  • Day170

    Suffolk Park, New South Wales

    August 18, 2016 in Australia

Spirits were high and immunity was low when we reached Byron Bay and although Renee spent four of the five days in bed with a fever it was still a lovely place to be. Ash got to get out a little more and spend time with Fenby who seemed to be catching all the fish whilst Ash stood stunned by the views and whales which played around in the ocean.Read more

  • Day169

    Toowoomba, Queensland

    August 17, 2016 in Australia

We drove inland for a couple hours to reach Steve and Sarah and Mila for a quick overnight visit to catch up again. Toowoomba, being planted right on top of a mountain provided incredible views in every direction and though our car didn’t love the way up we enjoyed rolling down for kms on the way back out.Read more

  • Day162

    Sippy Downs, Queensland

    August 10, 2016 in Australia

It took us over 5 months to get there but we were excited when we finally arrived at Brittany’s place to share a week with her and adventure together. Rock climbing, walking, boating, eating and packing were all done in decent amounts as well as hanging out with a bunch of dogs for much of the time.

  • Day159

    Rainbow Beach, Queensland

    August 7, 2016 in Australia

Wanting to go to Fraser Island but knowing that it would be a ‘next time’ destination we stayed as close as we could get by camping across the channel on Rainbow Beach for a few days. The numerous tiny birds as well as pelicans, dolphins and flying fish ensured that we enjoyed our last ‘real camping’ experience before visiting friends and hitting the road south. This place was truly beautiful. Being able to see the sunrise and sunset each day and walk only meters from our bed to the beach we just soaked in the serenity and played many rounds of Pictionary in the sand. We decided it was probably our second favourite beach site all trip and we look forward to next time heading over to the island.Read more

  • Day159

    Maryborough, Queensland

    August 7, 2016 in Australia

The birthplace of author of Mary Poppins, P. L. Travers was a quaint old-fashioned sort of town by the river, evidently a place where locals saw value in maintaining historical building and streets which provided visitors with an accurate view of what the town would have been like a century ago. Being a Sunday, most of the shops were closed and streets were empty which allowed us to comfortably take part of the heritage walk throughout the town. The previous night we had watched ‘Saving Mr Banks’ together which gave us some insight into the life by which Mary Poppins had been shaped.Read more
