Strahan

This is such a great little town. Nestled between the waters of Macquarie Harbour and the rainforest, a picture postcard destination. There are restored pioneer buildings, cute little shops and cottages overlooking the bay which itself is dotted with boats in all shapes and sizes.
The down side was the evidence of forest destruction to make way for plantations-such a difficult scene to deal with.
We were off to experience the magnificent Gordon River and in the evening were delighted to watch Australia's longest running play-The Ship that Never Was -telling the dramatic and hilarious true story about the last great escape from Sarah Island. In January 1834 the last ship built at the convict settlement of Macquarie Harbour was about to set sail for the new prison at Port Arthur. Ten convict shipwrights had other ideas- and so the play is performed telling the story of an amazing escape and extraordinary voyage. Interactive, hilarious and so entertaining !Weiterlesen
