George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens Pt 1

    May 22, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens have played an integral role in the urban development of Darwin, dating back to 1870. Only a few remnants of original gardens remain today, having survived a torrid history of cyclones and bombing. After the bombing of Darwin the gardens were in shambles. Jack Agostini who had started as a labourer at the Gardens in 1937, was given the task to restore them. He laid the foundations for the beautiful place it is today.
In 1974 Cyclone Tracy destroyed over 75% of the gardens plants and trees, so once again a massive restoration needed to be done. Thank heavens this restoration took place to give us such a peaceful , green and shady place to enjoy.
