The Vasa museum is a maritime museum in Stockholm. The museum displays the only almost fully intact 17th century ship that has ever been salvaged. The 64 gun warship Vasa, sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 shortly after her launch. For the next 300 years she lay undisturbed in the Baltic sea, which is known to preserve wood due to the absence of wood worm in this sea. She was located and finally raised in the 1950's. She eventually found her new home in her own museum, The Vasa Museum, where you are able to see the glorious colours she was once painted.Okumaya devam et

  • Stockholm, The Old City

    15 Ağustos 2019, İsveç ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Stockholm is a city on 5 Islands and on one, Gamla Stan, is the Old City, with cobbled streets and buildings of the 17th & 18th century. In narrow streets we saw long low two story buildings that comprised many dwellings often with varying facades with simple variations.
We were escorted around the old City by a wonderful, bohemian type, born and breed gentleman from Stockholm. So much knowledge, so much dry humour, so much character. Our guide certainly made the Old City come to life with his wonderful words and actions. We actually walked by his apartment in the Old City, his wife bringing us umbrellas when it started to drizzle.
It is home to the medieval Storkyran cathedral built in 1279 with the St George and the Dragon and the Joseph and Mary sculptures. Here is also the Royal Palace, the King's official residence.
A delightful little spot in the Old City is a quaint little piece of serinity to sit, relax and have a meal under the chestnut tree, popular but still a charming little space to enjoy.
We also were shown a famous home in the Old City, number 21. Where a young group, consisting of two boys and two girls, began writing and singing - yes ABBA.

Stockholm, The capital of Sweden and home to Angies nephew Justin, and his daughter Winnie. It encompasses 14 islands and more than 50 bridges on an extensive Baltic Sea archipelago. Its land area is nearly 1/3 urban, 1/3 water and 1/3 green space.
Famous for the cobblestone streets of Old Stockholm, the 13th century Storkyrkan Cathedral, the Royal Palace, the Nobel Prize museum, the origin of ABBA, with an ABBA museum, ferries and sightseeing boats, upmarket shops, restaurants, cafes, 760km of bicycle paths, outside activities in summer and cruise liners moored along quays. Winter is an ice skating bonanza.
Stockholm was granted by the European Commission the "European Green Capital" in 2010 , with large green spaces for its people. The city has adopted the objective of being fossil fuel free by 2050.
This is perhaps the most beautiful of the Scandinavian capital's because the crystalline waters that flow through the intersecting canals give a luminous appearance to the palaces, museums and parks. All of this and the added delight of spending Angela's birthday with Justin, Winnie and their extended family for a special home cooked dinner and happy birthday sang in Swedish - so much fun and enjoyment🎂🤗

All packed up and just home to go,! Really not much to say except we are homeward bound after the most amazing trip. Highlights ?? Everything really. Each place seemed to hold a special connection to us whether it be the shear natural beauty, the old buildings that are still standing proud in their history, the environmental advances of Scandinavia, or is it all the fantastic people we have met along the way - all we know this is a beautiful world and the term. " There is no planet B " has never rung clearer.!Okumaya devam et
