      Shark Bay

      March 27 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Morning cruise up the coast to Dirk Hartog Island on the outer edge of Shark Bay and passing the most westerly part of Australia. There were talks on Coral Reefs by Terry and on the names of local places and how they were generated over the years by numerous different occupiers and explorers who charted the coast and claimed it for their various countries. We arrived at Cape Inscription at lunchtime.
In the afternoon we embarked for cruises up the coast to the tip of the island along Turtle Bay in search of illusive loggerhead turtles (we did see some tracks up the beach) while seeing many Osprey and other sea and shore birds. The other group saw a sea snake!
The chef, Ben, then gave a cooking demonstration of Japanese inspired Tuna, which was delicious. We then sailed on across to the tip of Cape Peron.
Later, while we were eating, there was a huge melee of small sharks and bottle-nose dolphins around the back of the ship in the lights from the stern. Amazing sight and what a way to conclude another beautiful day.
