      Jerry's Plains to Dungog

      May 29, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Lovely country drive today after a pleasant overnighter at Jerry's Plains. The agricultural land is just beautiful. We passed through more historic villages in the Upper Hunter! We are now nestled in at Dungong for a couple of nights. It is a very interesting town with lots of history.More exploring tomorrow ..... just a shame Chichester Dam is closed for picnickers and campers following landslides but we are still able to view the dam (apparently).Read more

      Dungog and Surrounds

      May 30, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Another day tripping around the Dungog area. Firstly we went along the Allyn River to where we used to camp many years ago.It proved to be quite a disappointment as the roads were atrocious and the camp sites were nothing but slushy bogholes ..... on then to attempt to see Chichester Dam only to find the roads were closed and contrary to what we were told we could not get close enough to get even a glimpse of the dam! Bugger!! We did however enjoy the lushness of the countryside and a fence many metres long covered with old shoes(some even still had the leg attached lol). Of course it was called Boot Hill....the last resting place for many shoes and other footwear! Not to have our day ruined we took a drive to Tocal and were able to look through the Tocal Homestead which only opens to the public on Sundays! BINGO!! It has so much history .... we were given an audio machine which talked us through the many inside rooms and outside buildings....the highlight of the day without a doubt!Read more
