Dank eines freundlichen Mannes auf Airbnb "Pete", hatte ich den Luxus auf ein Privatzimmer inmitten einer Kleinstadt ☺

Am ersten Abend hatte ich direkt ein total liebes Gespräch mit einem Australier, der mal für einige Monate in der Schweiz war. Er sprach begeistert über Europa und würde gerne wieder zurückkehren 🙆🏼‍♀️

Dann nutze ich den einzig warmen Tag (20°C), um den "yuelarbah walking Track" nachzugehen 🌲🌿🪶.
Meine volle Aufmerksamkeit galt den Vögelgeräuschen, weil ein Klang ganz neu für mich war. Leider fand ich den Besitzer vor lauter Bäumen nicht 🧐
Dann noch eine besondere Begegnung mit einem, ich rate nur, Bindenwaran 😳 noch nie einmal Reptil dieser Größe so nah gewesen 😍

Später am Strand habe ich nach Walen ausschau gehalten, bisher vergebens ☹ Naja Whaleseason ist noch nicht vorbei 🐋Read more

Evening Strolls Along the Beach

Decided to take a 'quick' walk along the beach this evening. 15 minutes from my cousin's place and just paste Mereweather beach there's a huge stretch of rocks that form hundreds of rock pools when the tide goes out. It got too dark for me to explore it properly but I got to see all sorts of amazing little critters (I've managed to snap the ones that don't move). I intend to explore further afield tomorrow if I can.
On the way back I saw something a bit more creepy. Bats. Not just any bats. Bats the size of flipping terriers! They are huge and climb up and down the palm trees eating fruits with their massive claws! Tried to get some pictures but the neighbours were looking at me weird.
I've relaxed enough now and want to do some more exploring so hopefully there will be more updates soon!Read more

From Sydney we went up the coast to Newcastle to relax a little bit. Actually we were looking for a nice campsite on a beach but all of them were sold out or crazy expensive because of the fires in the south and the summer school holidays. At the end we found some cheap Motels in Newcastle and explored the city and the beaches from there.

Von Sydney ging es wieder ein Stück in Richtung Norden nach Newcastle. Hier wollten wir eigentlich eine Woche auf einem netten Campingplatz am Meer verbringen, aber durch die Buschfeuer im Süden und den Sommerferien sind nahezu alle Campingplätze ausgebucht oder unbezahlbar teuer. Nach einiger Suche haben wir zumindest noch ein paar Motels in Newcastle gefunden und konnten die Stadt von dort besichtigen. An einem der Tage hat uns allerdings auch hier der Qualm der Buschfeuer eingeholt... :(Read more

Nelsons Bay to Newcastle

We woke at Nelsons Bay. We done our stretching then Aoife and Rachel called me to fill me in on how Rachel got on with the medium.
After we got in the sea for a quick swim. We dried off then decided to get eggs in a restaurant as our van life is coming to an end. Then we drove to Newcastle and drove to the Bogey hole as suggested by Pat. We got some drone fottage and then we were going to drive to the shops as it was quite overcast but we decided to get the van washed first so we drove to a place that could do it.
We then drove to Westfield in Newcastle and had a look around for the evening and we both bought new books.
We then drove to the area near the wharf where we parked when we were here the last time and slept there for the night. There was boy racers going around which was not ideal but they eventually stopped.Read more

Leaving Home

I haven't been overseas since my honeymoon in 2014. So having a month off and heading to the USA is a pretty wonderful feeling. It's also the first time that Chris and I have been overseas together to anywhere other than New Zealand. So it's pretty special for us both.
Getting to this point has been a bit of an ordeal. After being quite ill earlier in the year, my client load skyrocketed, so it's been full steam ahead for me ever since May and I feel a bit like I've just fallen over the line to get here. But no more psychologising for a month. Of course since I finished work two days ago, there's been a mad scramble to prepare, but it'll all be worth it.
On the bus on the way in to the Newcastle Interchange, the bus driver was whistling along to Michael Jackson's Beat It. The music was turned up and this guy could whistle. He was the Dame Joan of whistlers at her coloratura best. This guy couldn't just whistle Dixie, he owned Dixie. So it was hard to resist the upbeat positive vibe in the bus and I feel that, even though I haven't slowed down yet, it's now only a matter of time. Very nice digs for the night, got a complimentary upgrade to a king size bed and am on the top floor with a lovely view over bush land towards Newcastle. From the entrance hall windows you can see the ocean.Read more

A party and a storm

We went to Hannah's 21st birthday party and had heaps of pizza. It was a very special occasion. Mum had to give a speech that she wasn't expecting but it seemed ok! We love Hannah. After the party we went to the most amazing playground at Speers Point park. A storm started so we had to run to the car but there was a huge rainbow back at our holiday house.Read more
