      Mundaring- End of trip

      May 9 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

It's over. We finished. Good start to the day. Finished off some Back Country Spag Bog for brekkie- thankfully Jude will have to put up with the side effects tonight not me! 42 km today and aside from about 5kms near Mundaring weir that was unbelievably steep and scoured badly the track was not too bad. Anyhow the bikes held out and thankfully so did the bodies. Total of 1050km over 23 riding days. Highlights of the trip were riding through the magnificent forest, the constant shrieking of the black cockatoos a sound that was mimicked by Lloyds crank bearings, fantastic single trails that got the adrenalin going, sharing the ride with a mate, lots of laughs and meeting great people along the track. Biggest mistake was swapping my light weight trousers for some thermal pants and shorts at the halfway point- it was embarrassing seeing everyone whisper " Athlete" when I walked by ( and no, Julie they weren't saying "Grandpa's off to town"). Other lowlights were the unrideable sand between Denmark and Walpole, lying on the one inch mattress in the huts for the last 2 hours waiting for the sun to come out and the dehydrated Radix Apple and Cinamon breakfast food. If anyone is contemplating a similar adventure I would remind you that there is a perfectly good highway suitable for cars that's half the distance and spring would probably be the best time to do the Munda Biddi ( Nth to Sth). Hmmm that's a thought - who knows what might happen if we were to have a few too many beers on the lawn!- Watch this space!Read more
