• The turn of a decade.

    29 stycznia, Australia ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

Coming into a new decade of life today for Kai, we started with a big fry up breakfast, then headed to Doubtful Island lookout from Doubtful Island Beach. After a rather challenging 4WD track, we got to what seemed like a cliff that dropped into the ocean overlooking Doubtful Island, which was across a small channel. We all had a look through the binoculars but only Justin spotted a pod of sealions. Some were frolicing in the water whilst 2 were sun bathing on boulders on Doubtful island.
After the lookout, we proceeded down the track to a cosy little bay, where for most parts we were the only group there. We swam, read and lounged on the beach while the boys did a spot of fishing. We spotted a sealion twice rather close to us when we swam. They caught 6 herrings which was rather auspicious because the number 6 is prosperity and we could have a whole fish each to celebrate Chinese New Year with the symbolism of " year of plenty".
When we got back to the campsite, we got the birthday girl to have a shower while we walked to fetch the cake from the owners of the campsite Karin, who kindly made us a chocolate mousse birthday cake with ganache. The icing on the cake was a photo that was printed on icing of Kai accompanied by a Highland cattle. It was delicious gluten free cake. There was also extremely good pasta for dinner.
I think the birthday girl had a very Happy Birthday.
