  • Detour Misson 6th day!

    Today we had to find a monument which the organiser called „Comrade meets Alien“. The Busludscha monument was errected by the Bulgarian Communist Party at the location were Bulgarian insurgiertes led by Chaji Dimitar (genannt Busludscha) fought against the Turkish-Ottoman foreign rules on the summit of the mountain in 1868.   • Task of the day!

    Today we had to fullfill our task of the day - Bulgarian Arm Wrestling Tournament over the top. We had to find two Bulgarian truck drivers were we have to do this. We won both competitons!! At this place we got approach from a lot of homeless dogs - very sad, but we had some sausages left and fed it to them. We left somebody very happy!!Read more

  • Our Road Mission today!

    Our road mission was in Skopje, the capital of Macedonia. We had to climb up the Vodno Mountain. On the top of the mountain we will find the Millennium Cross, a 66-meter tall cross. It was constructed to serve as a memorial of 2000 years of Christianity in Macedonia and the world.Read more

    We started in Sofia / Bulgaria towards Skopje / North Macedonia and then further to Lake Ohrid. In Skopje we had a quick stroll through the old town with a fantastic „Old Bazar“, the castel and the Mustafa-Pascha-Mosque. We then drove to the Lake Ohrid, which is one of Europe deepest and oldest lakes. Here we camped but unfortunately we ha again heavy rain over night.Read more

  • Finalisation of day 8!

    Today we drove from the lake Ohrid over the border to Albania to the capital Tirana. The plan was to stroll around in Tirana but we had no chance to find a parking spot and the traffic was terrible. Then we visit the harbour town Durre, with its old Roman ruins (e.g. amphitheater). Afterwards we looked for a nice camping ground at the sea and ended up in Montenegro.Read more

  • Road Mission Day 9!

    The road mission wants us to cross the border from Albania to Montenegro which we did already yesterday and then drive to the old city of Stari Bar. Stari Bar was abandoned due to a earthquake in 1979 which destroyed the water supply and later on a new town was constructed at the coast.Read more

    The organiser celebrates the second party on this tour. The site is located in a very picturesque area. We also had the possibility to join a boat tour to the lake. The party is full on! The food is a typical Montenegrin BBQ and very loud music.Read more

    We started from the camp site early and drove direction coast to fulfill the road mission. We strolled around the picturesque town of Kotor (see Road Mission) then drove along the coast towards the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Here we had to wait for 5 HOURS to cross the border!! Our plan to explore Sarajevo (capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina) was ruined. But we found a nice hotel in the surrounding hills and that compensated a little.Read more

    Sarajevo is famous for three historical events, assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austrian-Hungary on June 28, 1914, which eventually led to World War 1. In the first pictures you can see where the assassin were waiting until the Archduke passed in his car and then shot him. The second event was the Olympic Winter Games in 1984. In the picture you can see the abandoned ski jumping area, a hotel of the Olympic village and the bobsled track (we organized a 20 man bobsled - see picture). The third event was the Kosovo war from 1998 to 1999. The siege of the city of Sarajevo by the Bosnian Serb Army, it was the longest siege of the 20th century. It cost the live of 11.000 people (including 1.600 children) and you can still see the sign of this war. In the pictures you can see still the remains of this war at the buildings with bullets and shrapnel impacts.Read more

    We have started in the Olympic Village in Sarajevo and after the sightseeing of the abandoned ski jump area and the bobsleigh track we had the time to stroll through the old part of Sarajevo. Afterwards we headed for the town of Mostar and the passing the border to Croatia we ended up in a nice camping ground close to the beach!Read more

  • Detour Mission of day 12!

    Our todays Detour Mission led us the the Zeljava Air Base in Croatia. This air base was the largest underground airport and military air base in Europe. It was buildt in the time were the country of Yugoslavia was still existing. The tunnels had a total length of 3,5 kilometers and the bunkers had four entrances which were customized for use by fixed-wing aircraft. The whole facilitas costed the Yugoslavian government 6 Billion US dollars. In this air base 80 fighter jets, 110 pilots and 1400 Airforce soldiers were hosted. The air base had 3 runways were the fighter jets could directly start from the bunkers. The main task was surveillance and interception.Read more

    We started after checking the car thoroughly at the lovely campsite in Croatia and headed towards Slovenia. We stopped in Ljubljana the capital of Slovenia to prepare our roadbook. After this we found a nice campsite at a river close to the border to Austria.Read more

  • Final day of our Balkan Express Rallye!

    Today is our last day of the rally. We started very early from the campsite and drove to Austria via the pass “Loiblpass” and then via the Autobahn to Salzburg. Here in Salzburg at the casino is the finishing line. We had to hand in our Roadbook. At 19:00 o’clock the award ceremony started. With our 420 points we were in the top third of all 75 participants.
