Welland Canal

This canal is running parallel to the Niagara River and serves as the cargo connection between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. There is 99 meter elevation difference between the lakes, and so the canal has several locks where the ships are puahed up / down to adjust level.
We visited one of them and watched a Bulgarian Cargo ship go up like in an elevator.

Tento kanál tečie paralelne s riekou Niagara a slúži ako nákladné spojenie medzi Erijským a Ontárijským jazerom. Medzi jazerami je výškový rozdiel 99 metrov, a preto má kanál niekoľko plavebných komôr, ktorými sa lode tlačia hore/dole, aby sa upravila ich hladina.
Navštívili sme jednu z nich a sledovali sme, ako bulharská nákladná loď stúpa hore ako vo výťahu.Read more
