Mauritius 2026

10 years. It is 10 years since we said, "Let's move to the US for one year and see what happens". 10 years since we decided to walk the life together and said YES.
Get the Champagne ready for this is not the finish line, it's just a honeymoon break.

  • Le Grand Bassin

    April 2 in Mauritius ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Grand Bassin and its temple Ganga Talao is considered a sacred lake among Hindus on the island. We were told that the first sacred water was brought here directly from India to be placed here and this is how the lake became sacred.

    ...

The strong chemical alteration of basalt rock led to the formation of saprolite - a loose clayey rock - on the surface, as well as oxides and hydroxides of iron and aluminum.
It is these oxides and hydroxides that influence the color of the soil. iron oxides have shades raging from red to brown, while aluminum oxides produce blue and purple shades.
Since iron and aluminum repel each other, each metal spontaneously comes into colorful stripes.

    ...

Práve tieto oxidy a hydroxidy ovplyvňujú farbu pôdy. Oxidy železa majú odtiene od červenej po hnedú, zatiaľ čo oxidy hliníka vytvárajú modré a fialové odtiene.
Keďže sa železo a hliník navzájom odpudzujú, každý kov spontánne vytvára farebné pruhy.

    April 4 in Mauritius ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

In 1856, Christian Wiehe, a prominent figure in Mauritian society, began the construction of this grand neoclassical Château. It was completed in 1859, reflecting architecture typical for colonial construction around the world. Today we visited the re-consteucted original version of it and did some rum tasting of the rum distilled on site.

    ...
