    Kataragama & Yala national park

    July 27, 2017 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Kataragama is a famous pilgrimage site for Sri Lankan Hindus and Buddhists. We arrived at the start of the 2 week celebrations. During our safari in Yala national park, we saw hundreds of people making the long walk (some walk 100's of miles) through the national park. There are daily evening parades in the towns sacred park, with devotees performing acts of self-mutilation, walking on hot coals, dancers and a variety of musicians making it quite and entertaining and colourful experience.Read more
