  • Buenos Aires

    October 28, 2017 in Argentina ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

We spent a few days walking around the city's tourist sites. Visited the famous cemetry, took a visit down to the old port of La Boca, wandered through an art museum, checked out the cathedral and took an afternoon stroll through the park.

    Next stop.... Patagonia

  • El Chalten

    October 29, 2017 in Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

We arrived in Patagonia! The journey here makes it into the top 5 of turbulent flights. Looking forward to some treks over the next few days. Bit cloudy today but weather promising for trekking.

  • Lago Del Pliegue Tumbado

    October 31, 2017 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

24km hike in great weather, it was cold but the sun was strong. Perfect views of Fitz Roy and surrounding mountains. Spotted some icebergs in the distance as well as a few big condors circling overhead as we ate lunch.Read more

  • Laguna Torre

    November 1, 2017 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

An easier 18km trek to the glacier lake today.
We saw signs of pumas in the sand but no luck in spotting any. Enjoyed a spot of lunch at the lake side and then fished out some small icebergs.

  • El Calafte

    November 2, 2017 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Woke up at 4:30am to catch the bus but the 8:30am connecting bus does not exist. Instead we are hanging about the town for the 4:30pm bus. Phoebe had resorted to sleeping on a park bench.

  • Puerta Natales

    November 3, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Admin and laundry day. It's not always adventure and beautiful scenery! Spent most of the day walking back and forth between travel agents and grocery stores but our next trekking adventure is sorted and starts tomorrow.Read more

  • Day 1 Torres del Paine - Las Torres

    November 4, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

A new trek started today when we arrived early into Torres del Paine national park. Once we pitched our tent we set off to view "the towers" (we didn't fancy setting off at 2am to watch the sunrise).

After a round-trip of 20km we tucked into a delicious meal of spaghetti with tomato soup sauce 😋

  • Day 3 Torres del Paine - French valley

    November 6, 2017 in Chile ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

We walked along the French valley to the Mirador Britannica, a 13km hike (without our back packs thankfully) with a stunning 360 degree view of the mountains.

We then headed to our next campsite for the night. The path led us through a charred forest, which is still in recovery after a big fire a few years ago. The wind started to pickup and I can see why the katabanic winds here are so famous! Hopefully our tent doesn't blow away tonight.Read more

  • Day 4 Torres del Paine - Grey glacier

    November 7, 2017 in Chile ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

It was an easy 12km hike to the glacier today. There was a wow factor after a couple of hours walking when we first spotted some icebergs. Then the glacier appeared!

We treated ourselves to three boiled eggs (£1!!!) as pasta with sauce has ran its course. The can of lentils was £4 and over the budget 😉

Our last night in the tent ⛺️

  • Villarrica

    November 12, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Relaxing in Chile's lake district. Plenty of volcanoes in this area. Fingers crossed there's no eruptions whilst we are here.

  • Volcan Villaricca

    November 13, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We woke at 5:30am to climb up Volcan Villaricca (2847m). Phoebe had no idea what lay ahead, neither did I. It took us 5 hours to zip zag or way to the top. Views were amazing, we could see down into the crater. Lava was bubbling away ready for the next eruption.

It was much quicker going down. Have a look at the YouTube link below, this is how we got down the volcano.

For anyone interested, there's the option to bungee into the crater!

  • Valparaiso

    November 15, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

This city has a very bohemian feel to it. It's a stark contrast to the south of Chile. We took a stroll through one of the local neighborhoods, famous for its street art graffiti. "Artists" come from all over the world to paint shop fronts, cafes, houses etc.Read more

  • Con con dunes

    November 17, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

A small trip to the sand dunes of Con Con. Then we went back to the beach and watched some sea lions fight with pelicans over the fishermen's leftover scraps.

  • Lima

    November 19, 2017 in Peru ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

7 hour wait to catch our next flight to take us into the jungle. Make that a 9 hour layover as flight is now delayed!

  • The Amazon (near Puerto Maldonado)

    November 20, 2017 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Today we travelled 45 minutes up the Rio Tambopata to the jungle lodge. Our group consists of 5 Australians in their 60s, Trevor from Malta and our guide Uriel. As we are in low season we have the whole lodge to ourselves.

A short hike from the lodge we climbed a tower, giving us 360 degree view of the Amazon at sunset.

Some of the wildlife we spotted today; Capibaras, "stinky birds", red cap cardinals, macaws, the monkey from "Friends"

    November 21, 2017 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We woke up at 4:30am and headed out to an ox bow lake. We hoped to spot the resident family of giant otters (they grow up to 2m in length) but they were keeping to themselves.

We then spent time fishing for piranhas. Phoebe managed to catch one, I didn't have as much skill. One of the group managed to have his finger bitten by the fish.

Next stop was the clay lick where we watched up to 30 macaws gather in the trees. They use the clay to help with their digestion.

Following that we toured a botanical garden. We were shown plants that are used to help cure many alments in the jungle. Some are reported to cure cancer while others are used to give the same effects as viagra.

    November 22, 2017 in Peru ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

We had our first flight upgrade today. Row 2 in business class, however the flight was only 40 minutes so no drinks or food service.

I'm feeling the affects of altitude today. We are now at 3400m above sea level and can feel the difference in the air. Went a quick walk through the old town and market area.Read more
