  • Trek to Manang (90km)

    17 Ogos 2017, Nepal ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Today's trek was a tough one. It wasn't so much to do with the landscape but more the weight on my back and blisters on my feet. Meanwhile, Phoebe had no problems. This evening Phoebe enjoyed some "wild barries" for dinner.

We have a rest day tomorrow before continuing to the high pass.

  • Trek to Muktinath (122km)

    21 Ogos 2017, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

The alarm went off at 4:50am. It took us 2.5 hours of slow walking and heavy breathing to reach the pass. We stopped for a few minutes to take some photos but there were not many mountains to see.

  • Back to Pokhara

    24 Ogos 2017, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

After the trek we got the bus back to Pokhara. Nepalese bus drivers have now overtaken Sri Lankan and Indians as the craziest drivers. There were a few moments where I could picture the headline saying "Nepal bus crash, 30 dead". Thankfully we all made it back in one piece after 10 hours on the adventure bus.Baca lagi

  • Yangon

    31 Ogos 2017, Myanmar ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

It's a small world! Phoebe bumped into her friend Ciaran from university days. We went out in the evening to have some food and as it was Ciaran's birthday we thought a celebratory drink was in order. We ended up in a very strange bar that was a cross between karaoke and a bad fashion show.
The number one tourist attraction in Yangon was also visited, the impressive Shewdagon pagoda.

  • Old Bagan

    2 September 2017, Myanmar ⋅ ☀️ 43 °C

We hired an electric bike and visited a number of temples today. Sunset is peak viewing time at a number of temples but we managed to find one where we could actually sit down.

The bike battery died on the way back but a local stopped to help and we made it home for takeaway pizza (the first in over 40 days!)Baca lagi

  • Mandalay

    4 September 2017, Myanmar ⋅ ⛅ 36 °C

We were all pagoda 'ed out today so kept it simple and walked up a hill to view the city. Looking forward to getting back to the countryside tomorrow.

    Fact of the day
Did you know that the cars here are right hand drive and they also drive on the right hand side of the road. It makes overtaking interesting!Baca lagi

  • Kalaw

    5 September 2017, Myanmar ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

A long bus journey today into the mountains. I watched "12 years a slave", it was quite depressing! Then Phoebe decided we should watch "Loving", which was just as sad.

It was also a full moon, which meant it was a holy day, therefore monks started chanting at 5am.Baca lagi

  • Somewhere in the Myanmar hills

    6 September 2017, Myanmar ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

We started a new trek towards Inle Lake. With the help of Khin Khin (a local university student), the guide, our group set of through the fields. We were joined by Thibot and Justine (France) and Carla (London).

We are staying in a small village tonight. Our accommodation is basic but comfortable. Lights out at sunset.

  • Still trekking

    7 September 2017, Myanmar ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

The fields today were full of chilli plants, aubergines, mountain rice, pumpkins, garlic as well as many other foods found only in this region.

There is very little machinery used, the most advanced seems to be an ox and plough. The farmers head to the fields at sunrise and return home just before dusk. Its back breaking work at times but theypadre probably happier than people who stare at a computer screen for 9 hours a day.Baca lagi

  • Inle Lake

    8 September 2017, Myanmar ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

We saw our first Myanmar rocket launcher today. There's no need for the US to be scared of this country's missile ambitions but have a search on YouTube for these homemade rockets.

We finished our 60km trek with a boat ride along Inle Lake. The fisherman were balancing quite spectacularly one legged and whacking the water to catch fish. It'd been a good three days exploring the hills and disconnecting from the internet.Baca lagi

  • Chiang Rai

    10 September 2017, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Back in Thailand where the country is still officially in 12 months of mourning for their late king. All public buildings have black and white ribbons and a picture of the old king.

On a different note, today we visited the Wat Rong Khun (aka the White temple), a very modern Buddhist temple. It was interesting to see Wolverine and The Predator amongst the sculptures.

The evening was spent having a Thai massage then dinner by the river. A very relaxing day!

  • Mabul island

    14 September 2017, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Our accommodation is less than luxurious but what a place to spend a day or two staring out to sea. We went snorkelling along the local reef and watched the sunset from the balcony.

P.s No sign of any pirates!Baca lagi

  • Kinabatagan river safari

    18 September 2017, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

A trip to Kinabatagan wildlife reserve. Our group consisted of 3 other couples from the UK (Bristol and Brighton x2). We spotted wild orangutans and probiscus monkeys. Crocodiles and monitor lizards made cameo appearances. There was also plenty of bird life. kingfishers, hornbills, bee eaters as well as a few eagles.

On the fishing trip, Phoebe caught the first fish within a couple of minutes while the rest of us struggled to catch anything until we moved further upstream. She caught the most fish in the group but couldn't eat any of them 😂

If you are ever in this neck of the woods, look up UncleTan, the staff were brilliant (three of them supported Liverpool as well!)
