  • Machu Picchu and Inca Bridge

    25 November 2017, Peru ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

It was another early start as the mass of tourists started queuing for the bus at 4:30am. Thankfully our hostel was close to the bus line and we made our way out at 6:30am.

Its rainy season here but fortunately it stayed dry as we made our way to the ruins. When you arrive you can see why this city was lost for hundreds of years.

A lot of the ruins have been reconstructed but some of the original walls are quite impressive.

  • Uros islands & Island de Taquile

    28 November 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

The Uros are a group of 90 man made islands that float on Lake Titicaca. They are made of reeds and can last up to 35 years before being abandoned. About 2000 people live here and have their own language that pre dates the Incas.

We then visited another island where men wear red and white hats if they are single and knit items of clothing to sell to tourists. The women wear black dresses to show they are married. It's a different way of life out there!

  • La Paz

    30 November 2017, Bolivia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

A day spent wandering around La Paz. The Witches market sold potions for all sorts of ailments, although I'm not sure of some of the ingredients used. Calle Jean is a street with some old colonial buildings. The public transport is quite unique in this part of the world, a number of cable car lines are built throughout the city.
Tonight we take our last night bus, splashing out with a full flat bed!

  • Sucre

    1 Disember 2017, Bolivia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

The bus was probably the worst journey so far (on a par with the Indian 6 bed cattle train) but we made it to our destination in one piece.

It turns out there is an election on Sunday which means the country goes into lockdown, i.e no buses to anywhere. Likely to be protests as well seeing the current president / dictator recently changed the constitution to allow him to run for another term. They also impose impose strict alcohol ban for 3 days before the vote to ensure judgment isn't impaired!Baca lagi

  • Uyuni

    2 Disember 2017, Bolivia ⋅ 🌙 31 °C

The curfew is stricter than imagined. We arrived into town with half the restaurants closed and practically all bars shut. There were a few people rushing around to catch the last bus out of town.

Fortunately we found a tour company that is willing to break the curfew. The only catch is that we need to out of town before the police wake up. So another early start tomorrow!

  • Geysers and hot springs

    5 Disember 2017, Bolivia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We woke up at 4:30am and drove to see some Bolivian scenery. Quite a spectacular landscape again as we decended into the valley full of geysers and boiling mud pools. No health and safety barriers here (I need to find out if anyone had actually fallen into any of the holes). All members of our group returned safely.
After that it was a quick dip in the thermal waters further down the road before we finished our flying visit to Bolivia.

  • Salta

    8 Disember 2017, Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

We have enjoyed a few days relaxing in Salta. We have walked around the old town centre, took a short trip up to the village of San Lorenzo (where I finally ate some Argentinean steak 😋) and managed to get out for a jog after 3 weeks of inactivity!Baca lagi
