• Rainy day in Genoa

    12 Oktober 2024, Itali ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Woke up to the pitter patter of rain. So CJ did some work and Bill read and played games on his phone. After a lovely tuna salad lunch we decided to take the #18 bus to the port. We got off and walk through the Port of Genoa - first on a busy road then to a better walkway and finally the board walk area.
Lots of families out with the rain stopping and just tiny sprinkles here and there.
The Port of Genoa covers an area of about 700 hectares (1,700 acres) of land and 500 hectares (1,200 acres) on water, stretching for over 22 kilometres (14 mi) along the coastline, with 47 kilometres (29 mi) of maritime ways and 30 kilometres (19 mi) of operative
The Port of Genoa is one of the most important seaports in Italy. With a trade volume of 51.6 million tonnes, it is the busiest port of Italy after the port of Trieste by cargo tonnage
There are two major lighthouses: the historical Lanterna, 76 metres (249 feet) tall, and the small lighthouse of Punta Vagno, at the eastern entrance of the port.
There is a large Aquarium and a BIGO - a cylinder type ascensore panoramic thing that you can ride up to see the city.
We walked about 4 miles and took the bus back for dinner.
We are heading to Portofino tomorrow.
