  • The Malecón

    12 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Not as crowded as during the high season, but still busy. A lot of families with children and couples strolling, eating ice cream and what street vendors have to offer. This is a very short walk from Casa Fantasia. The clouds are gathering, and as you can see in the photo it is already raining in the distance over the waters of the Pacific. I felt a couple small drops on my face, refreshing... I have an umbrella in my backpack, I am set, right? - BassLeia mais

  • Downtown

    12 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Wetttttt! I took a bath downtown! First a few drops, everyone walking in the light rain. It actually felt good and cooling. Then it got a little heavier. No one here carries an umbrella. They started sheltering under awnings and in the entrances to stores. I deployed my umbrella, my defensive shield and kept walking. Everyone was cowering under the awnings but I was walking, all the way to the edge of downtown. And then the floodgates opened. My small umbrella protected my head, barely. Everything else got wet. The cobblestone streets became rivers. I left my room without putting my water shoes on. Big mistake. My leather shoes are soaking wet. The worst part is when you want to cross the street from sidewalk to sidewalk. The water was ankle deep at its shallowest. Wow, as I said earlier I took a bath downtown. Of course, on my way back el hombre y perro were gone.

It poured for 30 minutes, then stopped, and everyone left their shelters under the awnings and started walking again on their way to the restaurants or on their way home - Bassam

  • Casa Fantasia

    13 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Very comfortable bed last night. My clothes are still drying on the back of chairs, haha. Yesterday was a fiasco with the rental car. Rental car companies are running something of a scam here. I wasn't able to meet up with Eduardo because of the car issue. Hopefully I can pick up a car today and see Eduardo and finally see Yelapa again.

Time to go downstairs for coffee and see what kind of breakfast they have - Bassam

  • Casa Fantasia Courtyard Breakfast

    13 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Hipólito is the owner/manager; he tells me that last night's storm was heavier than normal. They had one storm before which was nothing like last night's. He goes for an hour walk every night and he was caught in it too.

They made breakfast for me: dos huevos, frijoles, papas, tortillas de maíz y salsa especialmente para mi 😊 It seems I am the only guest here - Bassam

  • Ice Oaxaca

    13 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Really good stuff. It's called Ice Oaxaca. The owner is so nice. The icecream is handmade and the flavors are mouth watering. I got one small scoop of Pétalos de Rosa, rose petal flavored icecream and one of Leche Quemada, burnt milk. The rose icecream was subtle and good, but the burnt milk was outstanding. Both were more like ice milk. I am going back tomorrow for Mezcal with figs, yum - BassamLeia mais

  • Vallarta Torre

    13 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Meeting up with Eduardo, el tío para Yelapa. I took the bus to Vallarta Torre. Saw a bus station about 3 blocks from the hotel. A bus had Walmart on its windshield. I had noticed that Walmart was on the Paseo de Los Palmas between VT and the airport. Sure enough I got out at a bus station right across from Soriano. Eduardo came out from his office to greet me with big hugs. He is a very nice man. We now have a very good friend at Vallarta Torre - BassamLeia mais

  • Eduardo's Home

    13 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Eduardo drove me to his home in his minivan. When we got to his little house, the door was open and the two little chihuahuas and Yelapa were in the small sitting room. The chihuahuas started barking their heads off, and Yelapa joined in, even though normally she is not a barker, haha. She was so cute with her bow. Of course she didn't recognize me, but when I scratched inside her ears she loved it - BassamLeia mais

  • Playa de Los Camarones

    13 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

We all pile up in the minivan, Eduardo, his wife Yadira Africa (pronounced Jadira of course, haha), daughter Alejandra, and son Eduardo Junior, one of the chihuahuas and of course Yelapa. We drive to Playa de Los Camarones. It is halfway between Vallarta Torre and the Malecón. You get to it from the same road that takes us downtown. I don't know why we never went there. Very cute beach. Right on the beach is Barracuda restaurant. You sit under umbrellas right on the beach. We ordered ceviche, guacamole, and I ordered a cazuela with marisco. The food was not outstanding, but good. The setting was priceless. Yelapa played in the sand like a maniac. She was so happy. I got to know Eduardo and his family. His wife is great - BassamLeia mais

  • Casa Fantasia

    13 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Eduardo and family drove us back to our hotel. By us I mean Yelapa and me. They all came up to my room. They thought the place was great. I gave him his Crocs, and Claudia's skirt from Dee Ann. I paid him the rest of his money, agreed on the time for Jadira to pick me up to go to the vet the next day, and they took off. Yelapa and I were finally alone... but she cried for them. She could still hear them in the courtyard and definitely wanted to be with them. She cried until about 1:30 in the morning. Broke my heart. But she finally settled down and went to sleep - BassamLeia mais

  • Beach

    14 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Yelapa finally woke up at 8:00. She had gotten closer to me in the middle of the night, occasionally putting her chin in my hand. When she saw her leash she got all excited. We walked to the beach which is literally a block away. A lot of guys out there with their off leash dogs running wild. She loves the beach, and of course she poops right there in the sand, and of course I pick it up. She is such a quiet dog, and I think she has a keen sense of smell. She has to sniff every bush, every tree trunk, everything. Same behavior I noticed on the beach in Yelapa - BassamLeia mais

  • Jack Fruit Tree

    14 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Yadira and a couple of their friends from Seattle pick us up at the hotel to go to the vet. Before we left for the vet I gave Yelapa a few morsels of Jamon de Serrano that I had bought for myself, she loved those and almost bit my fingers off to get them. Her appetite whetted, she went to her bowl and ate a good portion of dog food. What a relief 😊, this is the first time she ate for me. Yadira is driving, she stops to order coconuts from a stand that happens to be under this jackfruit tree. The jackfruit is not ripe yet. This is the first time I have ever seen a jackfruit tree. Everyone orders a coconut but me, which I regretted when they brought the coconuts, they smelled so good - BassamLeia mais

  • Veterinario Mascota's

    14 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Yadira drops us off at Dr. Penã, the vet who took care of Yelapa, to pick up the health certificate. Now Yelapa has her official papers. I am so happy. She is a lovely lovely dog. She sat in my arms the whole way to the Fernandez home. This was a trial run for the ride on the plane. I think she will do fine - BassamLeia mais

  • Casa Hernández

    14 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

We get to Casa Hernández to drop Yelapa off so we can go to this Mexican restaurant, they don't allow dogs. Yelapa is so happy to see the other dogs. Yadira is like Laura; she loves animals. She is very vivacious and very warm, I really like her. So is Eduardo and the kids - BassamLeia mais

  • On the Malecón

    15 de julho de 2016, México ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Walked the whole length of the Malecón, taking selfies along the way, with Yelapa of course. Wanted to go to the grocery store to buy a few things. Walked right in, but couldn't find a basket. Walked out to ask for a basket, the door attendant saw Yelapa, pointed to a no dogs sign and said I couldn't bring her in. He said I could tie her outside and go in, I said no way Jose (could've been his name). All I need after all this trouble is to lose her. So we walked back. I bought a hat and cheapo sunglasses along the way. She looked at me funny, I don't think she approves of my taste. She's already sounding like Laura - BassamLeia mais
