    April 11 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Few days in Spain for my 45th birthday.
Alicante has a lovely beach, marina and a castle on a hill. Quite mountainous terrain behind the main city, reminded us a bit of La Paz. City is quite modern, tons of tourists, and tons of bakeries, gelaterias, restaurants etc.

5pm flight from Cardiff with Ryanair on Thursday.
C6 bus to town - super easy.
Boni apartments in great location but next to KFC and super noisy at night.

Breakfasts at Santagloria bakery across street with the most amazing pastries!

1st day super sunny and wandered around then lay on beach most of day. Pretty busy, not many English. Lovely atmosphere. Anna went for a dip and said it was freezing.
Salad for lunch followed by ice cream at Borgonese which was only 3.5E for 2 scoops of the most delicious super dark choc and pistachio. Amazing!!!
Dinner at La Taberna el Gourmet. Is on Michelin list and was v busy, were lucky to get a table near bar. Ordered paella to share (23E each), waited ages as is customary with paella but they gave us a chicken one so had to then wait again for correct one. They were v apologetic and gave us some tapas while we waited. Wasn't v impressed by dish - so salty! Disappointing meal.

2nd day more overcast but bright in morning, walked up to castle via some beautiful side streets. Castle had gorgeous views. Anna got lift down, I walked. All free.
I picked up some spinach empanadas and then we had some goat cheese and sun-dried tomatoes ones at Las Muns, which were super yummy. Followed by an amazing pastries oozing with tons of chocolate from our breakfast spot.
Anna was tired so had a nap and I wandered along the beach. She came and joined me and sat on some reclining chairs looking at the beach whilst Anna got drunk on aperol spritz and then sangria.
It was getting chilly so we headed back and Anna dragged me onto the 5E boat trip with a reluctant captain as there weren't many tourists and we just slowly meandered around the harbour for prob less than 15 mins! Absolutely rubbish! 🤣
Dinner was galettes and crepes at Creperie el Molino de Paris. Absolutely delicious!!

3rd day was forecast to rain all day but was mostly just spitting or dry apart from some downpours once we were in bed.
Santagloria was super busy for breaky so went to Borgonese instead, v yummy.
Spent quite a while at Ocean Race museum (free apart from 5E for simulator and VR goggles) - really interesting.
Lunch at Vagabond (mexican / Lebanese fusion street food) where I had falafel tacos, super yummy.
Walked then slept and read before dinner at La Tia Juana, a crazy super decorated Mexican with sombreros and delicious food and drink. Amazing place, amazing food.

Uber back to airport in early hours and 8:30am flight home.

Fab stay. Prob wouldn't go back unless cheap sun break as not much else to see but great for a few days and amazing food!
