  • Lucky Lake Hostel Amsterdam

    June 24, 2016 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

So after getting two and a half hour's sleep last night, we left at 2am for Luton airport! At 4am we said goodbye to Bill and many thanks for making the early journey to drop us off! We took off at 6am and from take off to landing it only took 35 minutes to get to Amsterdam! After a slight trek to get to our hostel consisting of nearly getting the wrong bus, finding the right one, walking 25 mins and then getting another shuttle bus, we arrived at Lucky Lake at 10:30am! We knew this place would be cool, but we didn't realise how cool it would be! So chilled, friendliest people and anything goes ;) We've had our free breakfast, had a nap and shower and now we're hoping to get a shuttle bus to the centre of Amsterdam to spend the evening and find a bar!Read more

  • Lucky Lake Hostel Amsterdam

    June 25, 2016 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Last night we took a short trip into Amsterdam where we enjoyed a lager in the Red Light District! Today we spent 6 hours in the city where we visited Anne Frank's House, Vondelpark, the I Amsterdam Letters, Heineken Brewery and enjoyed another lager in the centre! We got back to Lucky Lake at 6:30pm and made our evening meal for a grand total of €3! Tomorrow we leave Amsterdam at 11am for Berlin!Read more

  • Baxpax Kreuzberg Hostel Berlin

    June 27, 2016 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

So after leaving Amsterdam at 10:49am yesterday we interrailed across to Germany and arrived in Berlin at 5:20pm! It sounds like a long journey but it was surprisingly enjoyable! We got a couple of metros to our hostel which were easy enough and pretty much exactly the same as London tubes. Last night we just chilled in the hostel and watched I Am Legend with some Aussies and Brits we met here. Today we explored Berlin all day! It was so hot and sunny! We visited the Berlin Wall, Brandenburger Tor, Reichstag, Holocaust Memorial, German Chancellor's building and Alexanderplatz where we stopped to have half pints of Berliner. We're now back the hostel having made dinner, both pretty sunburnt and both trying to not let the fact that we can't watch Game of Thrones tonight affect how happy we are! Tomorrow we're off to Prague at 11am.Read more

  • Clown & Bard Hostel Prague

    June 29, 2016 in Czech Republic ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

So after a 4 and a half hour Interrail journey from Berlin to Prague yesterday, we arrived in the city at around 3:30pm! We found our hostel which is definitely the best hostel we've stayed in so far; friendliest people, soooo cheap and amazing rooms! Last night we found a cider bar which served 40 different ciders! We then had two pints in our hostel which would come to just over £2 at home! Today we explored the Old Town which was genuinely so beautiful! We also took a visit to the Prague Beer Museum which served over 30 different draught beers! All in all Prague has been a 10/10 stay!Read more

  • Hostel Ruthensteiner Vienna

    July 3, 2016 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Okay so this is two days late, but we've been super busy! Vienna was so lovely and we were lucky enough to be upgraded at the hostel so we had a double bed ensuite which was so lovely! The hostel had such a good atmosphere too. Using a 48 hr unlimited travel card we used the trams and metros around Vienna to do all our sight seeing. Vienna certainly is a very grand and majestic city, at every turn there is a huge building that you weren't expecting! We enjoyed the sights a lot, only downside was that the heat was unbearable at times - with highs of 35 degrees in the inner city and being typical English, we struggled at times!Read more

  • Friends Hostel Budapest

    July 4, 2016 in Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

We have just arrived in Salzburg having spent the last two nights in the beautiful Budapest! We got to our hostel in Budapest on Saturday and it was more like a posh hotel apartment! It was such good value for money, as were most things in the city. On Saturday night went to a ruin pub called Szimpla which was awesome! Yesterday we spent the whole day exploring and the views were incredible! We enjoyed a meal looking out over the city at lunch time. Budapest is quite a small city so it's doable in a day. This meant we had time to go out again last night to the Szimpla pub and then see the Danube river and parliament building at night all lit up! We loved our stay, definitely going back one day!Read more

  • Yoho Hostel Salzburg

    July 6, 2016 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Spent one night here on route to Italy! It was such a lovely small town we managed to see all the main sights in one evening. Fulfilled a childhood dream of mine to walk in the footsteps of Maria from Sound Music! Had to get up very early for our train to Venice but it was worth it!Read more

  • Ostello Santa Fosca Venice

    July 6, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Yesterday we arrived in the beautiful Venice! Having found our lovely hostel with huge grounds we then explored for a couple of hours! We then made dinner and treated ourselves to a bottle of Merlot and some dark chocolate! Today we literally walked all around the island! The sky was cloudless and it was sweltering! Our favourite spot was where we sat for lunch at the Dogana looking over the Grand Canal eating slices of pizza! After the success of last night's bottle of red (Bill's suggestion) we bought another and intend on playing a few more games of Rummy tonight.Read more

  • Hostel Santi 7 Florence

    July 8, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Arrived at 12:30 yesterday, it was around 35 degrees until the early evening so we made the most of the hostel, its happy hour and the budget wine from the shop next door. This is the first time we have properly chilled since we left home! This morning we got up at 6:30 to get into the city centre for 8, missing the hoards of tourists and crazy temperatures. We were only in the city centre for a few hours but we saw a lot, only downside is we weren't allowed in the cathedral only wearing vests and shorts. Since we got back in the afternoon we have been chilling again (with more wine), making the most of the all you can eat buffet and avoiding scottish people discussing the last episode of game of thrones which we still haven't seen...Read more

  • Hostel Beauty Rome

    July 17, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Rome was by far the hottest place we've been! Which meant we had to limit our sight seeing to mornings and evenings. Despite this we saw a lot of Rome! We visited lots of landmarks including the Roman ruins, Colloseum and Vatican City - all of which were amazing! We also treated ourselves to a beautiful meal out in a live music restaurant where we had pizza and aperol spritz! All in all we loved our three nights in Rome, we just wish it hadn't been so hot and we hope to return one day perhaps in Autumn.Read more

  • Arc House Hostel Barcelona

    July 17, 2016 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

The location of our hostel in Barcelona was amazing! We were right next to the Arc de Triomf, Barceloneta beach and most of Gaudi's buildings! On the first night we explored the area around us and then sat in the local park and drank Sangria. The next day we walked all around the city sightseeing and then in the afternoon we sat on Barceloneta beach sunbathing (and Ben had a dip in the sea). Only problem was that because it was quite breezey whilst we were on the beach we didn't realise how intense the sun was and we both got thoroughly sunburnt! That evening we enjoyed a pizza in front of Django Unchained in the hostel lounge! Wish we could have stayed longer!Read more

  • Way Hostel Madrid

    July 17, 2016 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We thought our location Barcelona was good, but the location of our hostel in Madrid has been even better! We're right in the centre of Madrid and everything is within walking distance! On our first full day we explored the West side of Madrid's centre which was beautiful! That night we had an ice cream in a pretty lit up park looking over the Palacio Real. Yesterday we explored the East side of the city and found the biggest and best park we've seen since we started our trip! It was glorious with lakes and fountains and little gardens. We spent the afternoon there having lunch and drinks. Today is our last day in Madrid and we're just chilling in and around the hostel before we catch our first overnight train tonight to Lisbon at 9:50pm! Portugal here we come!Read more

  • Stay Cool Hostel Lisbon

    July 23, 2016 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

After a pretty rough 9 and a half hour overnight train from Madrid to Lisbon we arrived at our hostel at 8:30am in the morning on the 18th. That evening we explored the area around us which included Bairro Alto, Chiado and a beautiful miradouro (viewpoint) where we had some beer and watched the sun set. On the 19th we spent the whole day exploring the centre of the city including the Arco Augusta and the Castelo S. Jorge which allowed us to have the most amazing views of the whole city and the sea. On the 20th we enjoyed our last lie in of our trip and then took lunch down to Chiado square. That evening we ventured to the opposite side of the city (which included extremely steep hills) and took a bottle of Sangria to share at another amazing and romantic miradouro where we watched the sun set again! On the 21st we left our hostel at 11am and sat in the first miradouro all day lapping up the view and the sun for 6 hours before catching our overnight train to Hendaye. We are now spending a night in a motorway hotel on the France-Spain border before getting another overnight train tomorrow to Paris! Our last stop!Read more

  • ETH Irun Hotel

    July 26, 2016 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Stop off between Lisbon and Paris. First overnight train was long and rough. After walking 45 minutes from the train station we found our hotel. Crappy motorway hotel to spend 24 hours sleeping and chilling in. Second overnight train to Paris from Hendaye was an experience - 6 people sleeping in a couchette!Read more

  • Le Montclair Montmarte Hostel Paris

    July 26, 2016 in France ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Well Paris has been the best way to finish our trip! We arrived early on the 24th after an overnight train from Hendaye. We found our lovely hostel in the lively area of Montmarte just below the Sacre Coeur at about 8:30am. After a little nap we ventured out and explored our area including the Sacre Coeur and Moulin Rouge! Yesterday we packed as much in as possible! After a little lie in and having breakfast at the hostel we set off on the Metro for the Louvre. We then walked along the Seine to Notre Dame where we queued briefly to get inside. We had lunch outside the Notre Dame and then walked to the Pantheon and Palais du Luxembourg. After chilling here for a while we then explored the St Michel region and found a restaurant on Rue de Buci called Atlas where we had a delicious French dinner (paid for by my parents as a last day treat - thanks guys!) Full on French food and cider we then got the Metro to Arc de Triomphe which was amazing! We then walked to the Eiffel Tower at about 8:30pm. We only queued for about 40 minutes and got reduced price tickets for the lift to the top being students. We then got the lift up to the top at about 9:20pm - I was quite wobbly on the way up but when we reached the top it was so breathtaking it was absolutely worth it! The view of Paris at night is seriously the best thing we've seen this whole trip and such a fantastic way to finish our journey! We spent about an hour and forty minutes on the tower and managed to get the lift down in time to see the 11pm light show! We then got the Metro back to the hostel and went straight to sleep being shattered! Today we're just chilling in the hostel until we make our way to Paris Orly airport for our 6:50pm flight back to Southampton! Crazy to think we're at the end but we've done so much in 32 days!Read more
