  • More Drone pics in Coral Bay

    4 settembre 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Day 26- So overall, we had beautiful weather for 3 of our 4 days (and the 4th day was just a bit overcast and windy). A good chance to sit back and relax, read, play with Dolly the Drone #2, and Kim had a great time snorkelling- the Coral has unfortunately lost all of its colour- a man told us it was from global warming, and another said it was from Coral Spawning on a neap tide??? So who knows, but it is very sad.
There were still heaps of fish swimming around, and the big schnapper hang around close to shore to tease the fisherman, (they get fed 3 times a week now for the benefit of the tourists) ....We're really glad there is no fishing in the Ningaloo Marine Park.

  • Coral Bay to Carnarvon

    5 settembre 2022, Australia ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

Day 27- we had a last visit to the Coral Bay Bakery before we hit the road and headed to Carnarvon.

We had to pack up in Coral Bay in beautiful weather, which made it even harder to leave. We've been watching the weather forecast and do not want to head south!

The first night we ended up staying in Carnarvon- it is so horrible to see the remnants of the 1 mile jetty- (I have many childhood memories of the Jetty!- Mum even gave me "The sex talk" while she was fishing one day).
The Jetty had some damage from a fire, and then in the last major cyclone, over half of it was destroyed!

  • Carnarvon to Mingenew

    6 settembre 2022, Australia ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Day 28- We headed to Mingenew "Place of Many Waters," a beautiful old town, after leaving Carnarvon.

Stockmen used to drove herds of about 800 cattle at a time from the north of the state where they'd be loaded onto trains. (These treks could take months). There are lots of metal sculptures around town in memory of them.

We met an old man just outside the pub and ended up talking to him inside. His name is Ian Carr. He worked as a Dr in both Southern Ctoss and Merredin, and it turns out he bought the old Bessell farm outside of Southern Cross.

We had dinner with him, and he thought he'd stay tomorrow as well, and maybe catch up with us for another dinner.

  • Mingenew and Coal Seam

    7 settembre 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Day 29- We headed out to Coalseam Conservation Park (Coal was discovered here in 1846- but the seams of coal were thin and not viable to mine).

The wildflowers were spectacular, and the colours of coal and the other minerals were so pretty in

We joined old Ian Carr again for dinner in the pub. He was full of lots of good old stories about Merredin and Southern Cross.

Another freezing cold night is forecast again tonight!

  • Mingenew to Home

    8 settembre 2022, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Day 30- The freezing forecast was very accurate. It was such a shame we couldn't get a powered site to try out the little heater we bought on the first night in Moora 🤣🤣.

Unfortunately, we are driving home now. Poor Kim will need a rest as he has done everything for me 🥰. He has hooked the van up, set it up and down single handedly, while I hung around, looking beautiful🤣🤣.

He's had to climb where I can't to get photos, 🤣 and some mornings, he's even needed to help me put my knickers and socks on while I waited for the drugs to kick in😪.

Fingers crossed next week, my back will get fixed, I get fit again, and then our aim is to climb Bluff Knoll 😍!

We have Jess's hens lunch to look forward to on Saturday!
