    It was time to do the laundry today. I then visited an old train station Museum in the goldfields before leaving the Sierra Nevada region and heading east: over the White Mountains, where I took a look at the oldest living trees on earth, the Bristlecones, and then drove down from 10,000 ft to 4,000 ft in the Great Basin.     My first taste of the Red Rock Southwest - incredible formations of clay created by water. The area is a large valley bordered by clay walls that contain many slot canyons- see images.   • From Nevada to Utah

    My last stop in Nevada was Echo Lake State Park. 2 hours driving later I was in Utah, much lower and much hotter. No more freezing in the camper! A quick look at Snow Canyon before proceeding to Quail Creek Reservoir for the night.Read more

    I spent two days in Zion, biking into the canyon with the unbelievable mountains to the left, and to the right. Second day I hiked up to scouts overlook, 305 vertical meters on 2 km hike. Very amazing area, but very crowded with people. They get 20,000 people a day!Read more

  • Bryce Canyon NP

    I thought Zion was unbelievable , Bryce Canyon is even more unbelievable. It is so large, you go 50 steps into any direction and the perspective complete the changes, no matter if you’re on the rim or if you’re hiking down into the canyon, it is unbelievable. Sunny for a large part of the day, clouds in the afternoon, but the colors look beautiful even when it’s cloudy.Read more

    Best campground I’ve been at in a long time, it’s a day to relax, and do the laundry again. The campground situated right in the basin with great views all around.

    After spending the morning in Kodachrome, biking the Panorama Trail, a short drive brings me to the Petrified Forest State Park in Escalante. Incredible, what kinds of colors the minerals created on the wood! After getting gas, propane and food, I spend the rest of the afternoon at the Escalante River: apart from incredible landscape, I hiked up to a ledge with ancient Indian petroglyphs.Read more

  • Capitol Reef NP Day 1

    This national park was named after a long and forbidding mountain range, that rose before early explorers, like a reef from the ocean floor. To me, it presented itself as a long row of red cliffs from the road, white domes on a first hike, and green valleys. More tomorrow!Read more

    I’m in Colorado, at the UNESCO wold heritage site preserving the largest concentration of houses of the Ancestral Pueblo people, ancestors of many South-Western indigenous peoples. Settled from about 550 to 1300, the cliff houses are most famous, but there is a lot more to see here.Read more

    This area is famous for the fall colors. I am a bit past the peak, but it’s still absolutely glorious. Add the mountains and colorful rocks and you have a picture perfect landscape.

    I say goodbye to the Alpine areas of Colorado after a very coordinated close to the town of Telluride, and drive the “Unaweep Tabeguache Scenic & Historic Byway” aka Rt 141. A very little known, but unbelievably beautiful area. Hardly any villages or cars. Took a while to drive though.Read more

    The mighty Colorado River and its tributaries have carved these amazing canyons. Fantastic looks from above down into the river valley and the cities of Fruita and Grand Junction.   • Lost corner of Utah

    I follow the Colorado river, great creator of canyons. On a short section with a very bad road, crossing from the interstate to the river canyon, I stumble upon the most forgotten almost-ghost town of the US. Cisco, Utah. The decline of the railroad and the construction of the interstate killed this little place. I loved it though. And should I mention, that the landscape in the canyon was incredible?Read more
