Sandos Finisterra Cabo: Day Pass Experience

During our final Cabo visit for the summer, we opted for a resort day. We booked day passes via ResortPass at Sandos Finisterra, an all-inclusive resort offering a beautiful escape from the marina crowds. My mom joined us for the adventure, and while getting there required a little extra patience, the experience was worth it.

The resort entrance is walkable from the cruise port area, but be prepared for a steep incline leading up to the front lobby. My mom and I took our time and made it with a slow and steady pace. If you prefer to skip the climb, a taxi costs $10 for the short ride. Keep in mind, the taxi only covers the trip between the entrance portico and the backside of the market area to the left of the dock where cruise ship tenders arrive.

A few arrival tips: the main gate does not open for day guests until 10:00 AM. If you arrive early, plan to wander nearby until opening because there is no shaded waiting area or seating outside the gate. You will need a valid ID and an advance reservation to enter. We booked our day pass through ResortPass.

Our day pass included pool access, beach access, lunch at the restaurant, drinks, towels, and access to umbrellas and loungers on a first-come, first-served basis. The resort setup was beautiful, with two pools, a swim-up bar, and plenty of places to relax.

The pool areas offered two different vibes. One pool featured a virtual DJ and swim-up bar, creating a livelier atmosphere. The second pool was quieter and more relaxed, making it a better choice for guests looking for a peaceful afternoon. A shallow kiddie pool was also available.

Lunch exceeded our expectations. I ordered the tacos, while my mom chose the grilled tilapia. Both meals were delicious, and the drinks were well made. The service throughout the day was excellent. After chatting with hotel guests, we learned the day pass offers a great value because guests receive many of the resort amenities without paying the full room rate.

The resort facilities were clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were well maintained, and designated smoking areas were available in two locations: one near the bathroom with 2 benches & umbrella shade and the other on an upper floor of hotel near cafe.

One important detail about the beach: beach access is available, but swimming is not allowed. The shoreline has a permanent warning due to strong currents and riptide risks caused by the beach’s natural shape. This is not a temporary condition based on daily weather. You are welcome to enjoy the views, listen to the crashing waves, and relax on the sand, but do not attempt to go beyond the large sand drop toward the water. The waves are unpredictable, and the steep shoreline makes returning difficult.

For transportation, I would pay the $10 taxi fare when arriving, especially if you are traveling with someone who might struggle with the steep incline. Saving the fare on the return trip makes sense because the walk back is downhill and much easier. The taxi also does not take you directly to the marina curb, so the convenience is limited.

Overall, Sandos Finisterra was a wonderful cruise port day option. With the right expectations about the walk, arrival timing, and beach conditions, it offers a relaxing resort experience with excellent food, drinks, pools, and service.Read more
