Cabin 9715 Virtual Interior on Quantum (otS)

This week aboard the Quantum of the Seas we tried out a Virtual Interior room. These are interior rooms with a twist. A 60 inch LCD TV, hung on the wall vertically with curtains in front of it, to mimic a window pane. The image shown on the TV screen is a live view from the ship (portside view i believe) with a pixelated rendering of a balcony railing.

It’s better than a blank wall i guess but the light balance of the view was terribly bright and pale. About 5 sec every hour we got a pixelated green screen which isn’t normal so we called and notified Guest Services for them to sort out after we leave. The blackout curtains are workable so you can draw them shut if you don’t want to look at the bright screen but you can’t turn the screen off therefore your room will not be the pitch black you expect in an interior. For most people this won’t be a big deal as it’s similar to a dim nightlight. However for us looking to retire early nightly (11pm PST login times suck) it takes some getting used to but easily addressed with an excellent eye mask. There wasn’t much heat generated from the screen but our room did stay on the warmer side on average (i’m not complaining but the Mister was).

This particular interior seems smaller of all the rooms we’ve tried thus far. Actually it seems comparable to the Oceanview stateroom on the older Radiance of the Seas except that room had a sofa and this room has a single armchair, which fits the room nicely. This room also had a single wardrobe where our other Oceanview and Balcony rooms came with 2. This room may be suitable for a couple not spending much time in the room. For us, we need a bit more breathing room for computing workspace and just to move around without having to do the hug and spin to traverse the bed to the bathroom simultaneously. I’ve honestly had larger university and boarding dormitories.

This particular room was way far in the AFT. Last hallway of the ship. There was rocking and bumps but it wasn’t too bad until we reached Cabo when we both flew into walls and toiletries on shelves came crashing into the floor. No broken laptops, bones, or concussions so we’re good. But we do know we are not AFT folks. All the rooms we’ve tried in the AFT are too rocky and constant machinery or rotors (something idk) racket and we’re not fans. The long walk back is a drag as well.

Would we do it again? I think we’ll pass on this room option due to space constraints.Read more
