Day #1: Barrio Getsemani

After my adventure in Central America, I have finally arrived in Cartagena. There, I go to a language school for 3 weeks and live with a host family. The flat is in the Manga district, which means mango in the indigenous language. The host mother is very nice, but it is not easy to hold a conversation with little knowledge of Spanish. The children are already 11 and 17, years old, but as far as I understand, they are only here on certain days and otherwise live with their grandmother. So far I just Met Mariana the daughter. Furthermore, I have a great view of the harbour from my room. Today I had two typical Colombian dishes for my morning meal. Buñuelos, are like sweet doughnuts (Krapfen) or cream puffs (Windbeutel), which remind me a bit of "Fasnachtschenkeli", and a yellow dragon fruit (pitaya), which tastes similar to kiwi or pear.
Moreover, It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the old town. It is very hot (40 degrees) and only my room is air-conditioned. This means that after a shower, you start to sweat again 😅 Today, I went on a free walking tour. It was very exciting and now I'm finding my way around a bit better. I'm looking forward to school on Monday and hope to meet some nice people then so that we can go on excursions together. It feels a bit lonely after the group tour and I am more on my own again. However, I really miss the people from the group tour! But I think it takes some time to get used to the new environment and new people😊.Leia mais
