  • Overnight pull off

    August 15, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 68 °F

We stayed at a large roadside pullout along Big Thompson River in the Roosevelt Forest. It was extremely quiet overnight with beautiful stars but the cars started up and down early and we were off and ready for an adventure as well. Unfortunately we didn't get a picture of the beautiful location. Total 185 miles for Bliss, about 5 miles for us, and $96.95 in gasRead more

We took Zumi down and headed for Bear Lake but it didn't want to go up the mountain with both of us, so back to the park and ride and took the shuttle bus. It was late so only did the out and back to Emerald Lake which is absolutely gorgeous with very good driven squirrels and chipmunks. We were in a comedy video at Bear Lake for OscarMike, disabled veterans outdoor adventure group.Read more

  • Day around camp

    August 18, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 61 °F

The weather was uncertain and we decided to stay near camp after yoga and our usual breakfast with grapes, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. A quick Zumi ride where Duncan could run, though it still refused to go up hill with both of us. Lunch of kimchi, crackers, and sweet chili sesame edamame. Quick scramble up the rocks above camp. Dragonstaff, slackline, hammock and reading time. Dinner of jackfruit, lentil, mushroom, onion BBQ with cheddar cheeze mountain pies. Lovely day despite the wind and rain!Read more

  • Friend camps with us

    August 19, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

Our friend Ready came up from Denver to camp with us. Luckily Ready is persistent and patient as this was the third attempt to find us with limited reception but the last GPS point worked. We drove up to trailhead and hiked 3.7 mi to Camp Dick and back on Sourdough loop. We returned to the car right before the major thunderstorms blew through. Sunshine made Aloo Gobi Kitchari while the guys battered down the hatches and chatted under the tarp. Then we enjoyed a lovely evening with campfire chats, dragonstaff, BBQ mountain pies followed by graham cracker PBJ and chocolate pies. We're still remembering to take more pictures.Read more

  • Trip to Nederland and Boulder Falls

    August 20, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

After sharing a delicious breakfast, Ready took us into Nederland and we visited the farmer's market. We found lionsmane mushrooms, small red potatoes and delicious "yellow cherry" plums (didn't get the actual name. As well as pee cloths to save TP and clothes from landfills for those with capabilities to wash them. At the traditional market we picked up bananas, grapes, PB, and marbled rye bread. Outside, ResoNate and Duncan sat in a bear. Ready brought us to the beautiful Boulder Falls. In CO you can take a public bus to hike sites, so amazing! We returned to camp, ate the rest of the Aloo Gobi while starting the fire and preparing the hummus encrusted cauliflower and mushroom "steaks" to cook in the mountain pies irons. Sunset on the rocks above camp was beautiful with ResoNate pointing out the viewpoints. We enjoyed mountain pie desserts and campfire company under the starry night.Read more

We enjoyed breakfast on camp and packed up.
We didn't have a time permit for Brainard Lakes area so parked in the Gateway lot and hiked in along a beautiful pine forest crossing small streams, the large St Vrain River, and meadows to lunch at Brainard lake. We continued to Long Lake but the storms were rolling in so returned back. Some of the trails we planned to take were winter only, so returned on same trail getting caught in light shared and heavier sunshowers. Luckily it was still fairly warm. Total of 8 miles roundtrip.Read more
