My birthday, Hanoi

With two friends I know from Leipzig, who are in Vietnam at the moment, too, I celebrated my 29th birthday :) We went to a nice Café with a Vietnamese - American concert.
The next day I enjoyed my birthday present from Ali: All-you-can-eat Japanese, BBQ, Hot-Pot, European and dessert. I'm still full!Les mer

Halong Bay

We booked a two day/ one night tour to Halong Bay. Because we didn't care about Tai Chi in the morning nor cooking classes, we chose the cheapest tour package, which was marked as "not good tour" [sic] on the receipt. Anyway I really enjoyed the cruise, the beautiful view, food and our room on the boat. We even could visit a big cave, which would be even more impressive without the coulourful lights everywhere ;)Les mer

Back to Hanoi

After visiting Halong Bay, we went back to Hanoi and spent some more time with our couchsurfing host Hanh and her cousin. They took us to more local food places and an Ice-cream-drive-in :)
In Hanoi you can see a 10km long mosaic wall, which even found its way to the Guiness Book.Les mer

Dong Hoi

Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

We rented a scooter in Dong Hoi to visit three caves today. After arriving in the national park we went first to Phong Nha and the Tien Son Cave.
After this our second stop was at the Thien Duong (Paradise) Cave. It was the first time for me riding a scooter by myself, but yeah we survived ;)Les mer

Hoi An

Hoi An is a small and touristy fishing village. In the evenings lanterns are lit up in the streets as well as along the river. One of the specialities is White Rose, a kind of dumpling, which we tried, of course :)

Mue Ne

Mue Ne is a long long road between two villages filled with hotels, restaurants, travel agencies and not much more. But there are some things to do. We walked around the massive Red Sand Dunes and followed the cool stream along the Fairy Tale Canyon. The rest of the time we just relaxed at the beach or pool ;)Les mer

Ho Chi Minh City

Our last stop in Vietnam was Ho Chi Minh City. We stayed here for 4 days with a lovely family with two super energetic children. Even if we saw the dad, who actually hosted us , ust once, the whole family took good care of us. And the grandma was a wonderful cook :)
During the day we walked around the city and drunk a few more Vietnamese coffees :)Les mer

Phnom Penh

Our first stop in Cambodia was in the capital Phnom Penh. We stayed here for 3 days with our couchsurfing host Ryan from the US. For food, we went to a restaurant, cooked at home and also ordered pizza ;)
Besides some sightseeing, we spent a lot of time in a Japanese Shopping Mall because of the high temperatures. One day they offered a free hairstyling session. After trying for 40 minuites to put my hair into curls, the stylist gave up and offered to make me two braids ;)Les mer

This is the second biggest city in Cambodia, but it feels like a small village. For two days we walked around the sleepy streets, saw some temples and made a new friend ;)

Angkor Temples

For two days Ali and I visited Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Te Prohm (famous for being in the Tomb Raider film) and many more temples. We cycled from Siem Reap to the temples, climbed steep stairs and even were lucky to catch a sunrise.Les mer

Today we went by scooter to the Bolaven Plateau. From the range of waterfalls available to see, we chose to have a look at Tad Fan and Tad Yuang. In addition, we made a short visit at a coffee plantation and tried some Lao Coffee :)Les mer

We stayed for 3 days in the capital of Laos. It's not a big one, but with some nice sights. For example we visited the Pha That Luang temple, which is the emblem of Laos. On our last day we managed to take part in a festival of another temple, with free food and ice-cream. We also went twice to the Japan-Laos-Festival :)Les mer

Udon Thani

Just a short overnight stop one hour after we passed the border to Thailand. It has a huge shopping mall and has a night-market that is at least the same size. I've seen the first christmas tree for this year! They are quite early here in Udon Thani and the more than 30 degrees doesn't help for more christmas feeling ;)
We decided to stay another day to visit a Chinese temple at a lake and a Book-Festival, where many Cospayers attended :)Les mer

We hitchhiked to here from Udonthani. For around the 500km journey, it took us 6 different cars and 11 hours. We even got a ride on the back of a pick-up truck. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Some even tried to stop the next car for us :)
In Phitsanulok we arrived late, so we just got some soup and went to bed to go on hitchhiking the next day.Les mer

Chiang Mai is such a beautiful city. I really liked it here. Many temples, markets, nice restauranrs and Fish Spas. It tiggeled quite a lot, but my feet are now much smoother for sure :)

After crossing the border at Mae Sot/Myawaddy, we got a car to Hpa-An. The ride was slow, four hours for 120km, so we continued on a pick-up truck for the next 400km... was not much faster ;)

In Mandalay the people were so friendly. Everyone waved at us or stopped to take a photo. We hired bicycles and went to Mandalay Hill and U Bein Bridge. In the evening we got a nice view of the palace in the full moon.Les mer
