    Whitsunday Islands

    September 5, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

A three and half hour drive from Townsville it took
To reach the Whitsundays so named by Captain Cook.
A unit in Shingley Beach to be home for a few weeks
Small but providing all the necessities that we seek.

Shore front boardwalks to choose either way
For strolls and gym stations to begin our day.
With central swim lagoons plus a marina so nautical
Mangroves, frangipani and mangoes typically tropical.

Balcony brunches and fresh coffees we sip
Language lessons poolside followed by a dip.
Navigating the local areas covering a number of miles
Discovering trails & hidden places causing our smiles.

These special islands truly are an idyllic sight
Father’s Day gift for a 60 minute scenic flight.
Whitehaven Beach’s sand and beauty defy belief
Along with the vastness that’s the Great Barrier Reef.

In Bowen it’s sandy coves between outcrops of rock
Steep boulder climbs and panamas from Mother Beddock.
Historically rich murals colourful on town building walls
Plus a day trip out to Finch Hatton’s cooling waterfalls.

  • Cape Hillsbourgh and Cape Gloucester

    September 19, 2020 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 21 °C

Cape Hillsborough at dawn greeting Roos on the beach
Loveable Eungella National Park also within easy reach.
To patiently wait creekside being quiet, making no fuss
Spectacularly rewarded spying the playful shy platypus.

A day trip to Hamilton Island checking out the resort
Snorkel & swim plus sunset drinks returning to port.
Yet our favourite place to visit is Hydeaway Bay
Returning every weekend to enjoy our Sundays.

It’s remote, yet civilisation really is not too far
Arvo session music drifts from a distant bar.
The tide recedes leaving rock formations exposed
Revealing just how much beauty this bay bestows.

The swooping wings of many fishing gulls
Lapping waves against the moored boat hulls.
    Tenders with their outboards spluttering
    Myriad of migrating butterflies fluttering.

Azure ocean waters sparkling crystal clear
Dugongs and turtles playing visibly near.
Appreciation for all the area has to give
Stir feelings could this be our place to live?
