    Sierning to Munich

    July 28, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

To drive left hand cars on right side of the road
Train your brain to manoeuvre in opposite mode.
Autobahns require you to follow 130 + kmp speed
Reversing into tight parking space an essential need.

Lycra clad cyclists are brave and of all ages.
Fields striped with crops in various stages
With a noticeable lack of fences and hedges,
Instead wildflowers brightly sway along edges.

Planted to entice bees and movement of fauna
Crucifixes or a memorial mark a special corner.
Harvesters work relentlessly creating clouds of dust
Aside windmills & solar panels, renewable energy must.

Our time is spent doing chores and providing a meal
For the family whose giving us a bed, that’s the deal.
Along with weeding & the number of slugs to reduce
Mowing, pruning and harvesting the garden produce.

Transversed the border visiting friends in Germany
Where a day at the Thermal spa was spent perfectly.
Went to view the BMW museum in Munich City
But the majority was closed which was a pity.

  • Beautiful lakes and scenery in Austria

    August 8, 2023 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Yet Vienna City has been voted the World’s most liveable
Surrounded by scenic countryside that is unbelievable.
So insisted on day trips to experience those places
First stop Hinterstoder where we tied our shoelaces.

Laudachsee & Spechtensee are mountain lakes
Reaching them often results in many muscle aches.
Amazed myself actually venturing in for a swim
The fresh water being best to revitalise sore limbs.

Neusiedersee is famous for the small town of Rust
Watching the storks nesting on the roofs is a must.
Purbach is quaint with a street lined with wine cellars
And Eisenstadt is where the Esterhazy’s were dwellers.

Discovering a sculpture garden at Windon was a surprise
And any of Hundertwasser works you have to scrutinise.
Along with Graz’s art gallery building known as the Alien
Plus the salt mines in Salzkammergut that are subterranean.

Hallstatt is Austria’s beautiful quintessential village
Absorbing it’s vista via boat feels like a pilgrimage.
Viewing decorated skulls in the sacred bone chapel
The cemetery silence broken only by waterfall babble.

After ten weeks here it’s time to farewell Austria
Flying to Greek Kefalonia that’s in the sea of Ionia.
With Sabine, Chris’s cousin and her hubby also Christian
We planned it four years ago, it’s a long awaited vacation.
