    Redlandshire

    November 16, 2020 in Australia

We left our working adventure with many a good memory
Of a special remote Marine Park full of nature’s treasury.
A final 2hr ferry ride to Queensland’s mainland shore
Then we’re back on the road driving a car once more.

With travel itineraries in turmoil our choices were few
House sits cancelled with just a short one left to do.
Rental opportunities were zero as Christmas looms
We bed hopped around good friend’s spare rooms.

As Covid-19 continued turning plans upside down
Frustration and uncertainty causing people to frown.
Wanting to spend Christmas with Romana our youngest
Missing Francesca over in London where it is toughest.

Whilst shopping locally previous neighbours we did meet
A quick phone-call and we were back in Sevenoaks Street.
Caring for a home transported from an Expo 88 site
Nestled in Alexandra Hills again, this felt just right.

Welcomed for three months, make yourselves at home
Perfect solution whilst our next year plans are honed.
Enabled to entertain again catching up with many friends
Feeling relaxed and rested, reflective on our year’s end.

Christian in his element with an acreage backyard
A little overgrown but he enjoys working hard.
Fallen branches to clear, mounds of leaves to blow
Weeds tackled, edges snipped and grass to mow.

The debris piles continued to grow higher & higher
We savoured a steak and vino around the resultant fire.
Nights of tropical downpours slowly filled the dam
The humid sultry air circulated by whirring fans.

With so much familiar it feels like we’re at home
Serenaded by cicadas & thumps as possums roam
The occasional koala grunt and a plaintive curlew cry
Plovers screech, geckos click and bats swarm into the sky.

  • Rehabilitation after surgery

    March 2, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Then March found me in hospital once more
With a total knee replacement exceedingly sore.
A comfortable homelike AirBnB in which to recover
With ample time for our next adventure to discover.

A wonderful nurse companion Romana did make
As Chris returned to Wilson Island to caretake.
At first a diet of painkillers and ice packs was best
Followed by gentle exercise and hours of leg rest.

I binged watched shows whilst I crocheted
And a long winter cardigan for Romana I made.
Short trips out with friends helped me survive
Until after three weeks I was allowed to drive.

Romana and Christian’s birthdays we did celebrate
At Brisbane’s newest restaurants which were great
ROGUE’s all black decor was definitely on trend
An interesting degustation menu I can recommend.

AGNES’s chefs cook only over flame of fire
A skill Christian often uses himself to inspire.
Enjoyable evenings but dislike venturing into town
Actually lucky to do so after the two day lockdown.

Incessant downpours made Easter rather sad
Spent more time googling research on my iPad.
Minimising and organising what to pack
Creating extra storage in the Jeep’s back.
