    Easter in Palm Cove

    April 7, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

The arrival of Easter came with gorgeous weather
Joined by both daughters, our family was together.
To enjoy the coconut fringed beaches of Palm Cove
Plus fresh waterways edged with dense mangroves.

Time to unwind & relax over the next seven days
Lush ranges and coastal views on which to gaze.
Browsing local boutiques and arty market stalls
Serenaded at night with screeching curlew calls.

  • Fitzroy Island and Crystal Cascades

    April 8, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Our favourite day trip armed with stinger suit and fins
Was Fitzroy Island for an awesome snorkel and swim.
Discovering beautiful corals and a plethora of fish
Swimming alongside green turtles as was our wish.

Ventured again into the world heritage listed Daintree
Rewarded by rainforest, sadly no cassowaries to see.
Visiting the refreshing waterfalls of Crystal cascades
Cloudless skies heralding that the wet season fades.

When the tide turned time for elusive fish to be pursued
Finding ourselves on a beach whose patrons were nude!
Came upon a cove with many balancing stones
It’s zen aura enticing us to build similar clones.

  • Port Douglas and surrounds

    April 19, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

A more peaceful time was envisaged by us all
A leisurely drive up the range to Emerald Falls.
Visiting a Papaya plantation for a swing and a talk
Morning coffees after navigating the circular walk.

Regular strolls along the beach of Four Mile
Warm pool swims and sun-lounging awhile.
Wandering Thala Beach Reserve for it’s view
Across the Coral Sea, an enticing azure blue.

Boarded a cruise along the River Daintree
On an excursion for some crocodiles to see.
Grateful to safely admire these ancient reptiles
Enjoyed our time & ability to observe for awhile.

  • Kewarra Beach

    April 25, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Anzac Day at the port got the chance to meet
Off a cruise ship neighbours from our old street.
Before our next housesit and a location change
On an acre nestled into the lush Macalister Range.

With tropical seperate pavilions and a pen of chooks
Plus a variety of fruit and fresh veggies we can cook.
Our charge was Archie an older mini fox-terrier pet
Requiring cuddles, company and visits to the vet!

Flocks of lorikeets, curlews & cockatoos loudly sing
Vegetation attracting Ulysses butterflies & bird-wing.
A choice of perfect beaches on which to stroll along
Though too often the seasonal winds blew so strong

  • Staying healthy

    May 14, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Daily loop walks around the acreage estates
Well positioned to catch up with our local mates.
Regular pool visits swimming kilometre laps
Revitalising energy that the humidity saps.

Chris began to feel unwell so to hospital we went
He’d had a mini heart attack now fixed with a stent!
Was certainly a shock as he’s as strong as a bull
Strengthening our resolve to live life to the full.

  • Quick weekend in Melbourne

    May 27, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Hence with Romana to Melbourne a weekend to spend
Watching ‘The Cursed Child’ before it’s season does end.
Then the museum to see some Fantastic Beasts
Followed by a favourite, delicious ‘Chin Chin’ feast.

Woke with a start when the bed did strongly shake
Discovering in the morning we’d had an earthquake!
A Mother’s Day treat of an indulgent pedicure
Love making memories together, that’s for sure.

The homeowner’s returned ready for a new start
Time to pack up our trusty Ute preparing to depart,
Navigating the Bruce H’way with familiar signage
Saddened to see an increase in roadkill carnage.

Watching for bowser deals to ease fuel cost pain
Impeded by numerous roadworks & incessant rain.
A steady three days drive south, back to Brissie
We’ve lots of appointments that’ll keep us busy.

Romana’s spare room’s taken to pay increased rent
Thankful for dear friends in whose home we spent
Time sorting our stuff into one case, nothing more
Ready to board our flight to Austria via Singapore.
