    Merlion Park

    June 11, 2023 in Singapore ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Arriving in Singapore as day turned to night
Wandered to Merlion Park a visitors delight.
Tourist hordes flock there taking selfies and pout
Overlooked by the statue spewing it’s waterspout.

The Marina Bay Sands sparkling, beautifully lit
With a dazzling evening light show always a hit.
Walking back to our hotel the streets safe and clean
Watched by silent security robots you’re always seen.

  • Marina Bay Harbour

    June 12, 2023 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

We took to the streets again the next day
Surprised to find a family of otters at play!
Bronzed statues highlight Singapore’s trade history
Though current art displays posed rather a mystery.

Floating in the harbour glisten’s the Apple store ball
Sleek designer shops line Marina Bay’s shopping mall.
Escaping the daily thunderstorm and showers
Entered a created oasis in the dome of flowers.

An interesting variety of plants in an area controlled
Similar to Queensland nature we’d recently patrolled.
Then onto Spago Restaurant with infinity pool view
Devouring delicious food watching the sunsets hue.

  • Kampong Glam

    June 13, 2023 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Ventured next day to the Arabian area Kampong Glam
With it’s ancient connections to the culture of Oman.
Colourful graffitied streets from businesses of old
Plus a towering mosque topped with an orb of gold.

Enjoyed a succulent kebab from the local cuisine
Then admired Chijmes growing restaurant scene.
It’s a convent church renovated and repurposed
Searching the menus but no gluten-free surfaced!

  • Sentosa Island and Mount Faber

    June 14, 2023 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Therefore ensued a MRT trip on the line East/West
    To a purely gluten-free restaurant, Singapore’s best.
The Butcher’s Wife lunch feast did not disappoint
Plus desserts at Tiann’s were deliciously on point.

Sentosa Island beckoned from the tourist guides
Enticing us to experience the cable car rides.
Crammed with family thrills didn’t fulfil our need
But bucket list tick gained & can say we’ve been.

Took a very steamy stroll along Mt. Faber’s ridge
Through to the intriguing Henderson Waves bridge.
Feeling exhausted by then and sore of limb
Taxied back to our hotel for a sauna and swim.

  • China Town and Clarke Quay

    June 15, 2023 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

Christian wanted to visit the old China Town
For market & hawker stalls to meander around.
Some of the back alleyways certainly did pong
Contrasting with open foyers perfumed strong.

Down past the colourful buildings of Clarke Quay
Ending up in the Bay’s exhibition, Floral Fantasy.
Superb orchids & arrangements admired out of the heat
But my preference for nature’s gardens is hard to beat.

Yet Gardens by the Bay’s super-trees are well engineered
Their avatar ambience & structures definitely to be revered.
Attracting you into a fantastic realm, kinda like virtual reality
We ascended to the heights of the Super-tree observatory.

It’s image design realisation is extremely expressive
An awesome structural legacy completely impressive.
Lying under their canopy at dusk is so whimsical
With strobing light patterns, it’s utterly magical.

  • Raffles Hotel and Satay Street

    June 16, 2023 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

A lunch @ Ramsey’s Bread Street by Marina Bay
Then afternoon relaxing by the pool on our last day.
At Raffles Long Bar a what the hell attitude we did bring
Revelling in an indulgence of peanuts & a Singapore Sling!

Contrast to the pandemonium mayhem in Satay Street
Where all haggle to grab a plastic table and tiny seat.
Ordering numbered skewers of prawn and meat
Charred over flames and scrumptious to eat.

In Singapore I recommend a few days to spend
Now it’s where our Asian adventure must end.
Taxiing to the airport for our Vienna flight
At the ungodly time of half past midnight!
