    - Jean de Valette, commonly known as Monsieur de Parisot, was born in Provence on February 4, 1495. Elected Grand Master of the Order of St. John in 1557, he led the Knights and the Maltese with courage and bravery to resist and overcome the formidable Turkish forces during the Great Siege of 1565. On 28 March 1566 he founded the new fortress city of Valletta on the heights of Sceberras, alter the design of the military engineer Francesco Laparelli (1521-1570). He reigned for eleven years and gained the reputation of one of the greatest Grand Masters of the Order. This hall used to be the Sala del Magazzeno Grande or Great Magazine Ward, another hospital ward.
