    Grenada- St. George's 1 of 3

    January 19 in Grenada ⋅ 🌬 81 °F

Granada is a beautiful small island (21 miles x 12 miles) that is 90 miles from South America. It has beaches, rainforest, mountains (2700’ high). It gained its Independence 50 years ago and are very proud of it (member of British Commonwealth). Like most of the Caribbean Islands its history was the Arawak Indians, pushed out by the Carib Indians and then the Europeans (Columbus came in 1498) and eventually the French. The population of 95,000 is employed in the spice business (Nutmeg, lemongrass, cinnamon and turmeric) and rum. We were just outside the town of St. Georges and spent the day on a kayaking trip where we ha clear bottom kayaks and then swimming. We were in Grand Mal bay were we rowed out to an underground sculpture park. There are 75 sculptures, 31 installed November 2023 called the Coral Carnival Statues. See photos for this interesting art. We spent an hour and half getting to this spot and then rowing back to the beach where we went swimming. Fun day. See 2 videos.Read more
