• LI and Day with the Sobels/DeZarlos and Guests

    August 2 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

Our visit to Long Island began with the good old LIRR train (many years of commuting on this train) early Sunday in NYC along with Lee to get to Bellmore where Sarah and Matt live. There we met up with Sheryl & Bill and our 2-year-old nephew Logan and 1-year-old Shayla. Our special guests were First Cousin’s Fred and Freda, with whom we have been trying to arrange a visit after “years” of not getting together. Now after 14 years, since Lee’s Bar Mitzvah, we had an opportunity to “break bread” (bagels) and catchup on so much between our extended family, children, grandkids, jobs, retirement, travel and of course health. Everyone is doing well (albeit 14 years older) and that is the great news as we recounted the good old days with our parents and grandparents when we were all children in Brooklyn and Queens. A super time was had by all. We started a shared directory of photos and promised to get together again soon.

Later in the day we got to spend some quality time with Logan and Shayla, who have grown up a lot in the 9 months since we have been gone. We brought them some gifts from overseas that we hoped were unique and not things they already had and of course they were. Logan loved his Titanic piggyback which we got at the world-famous Titanic museum in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The kids also got Sri Lanka Elephant t-shirts, not easy to get in Bellmore, and a cool dress for Layla and elephant outfit for Logan. Mom and Dad were pleased with our unique choices.

After a great Greek Long Island dinner (thanks Sheryl & Bill) I got to open birthday presents as my birthday does not seem to end. Card, License Plate and Blessings MUG! FUN DAY!
