    We spent the morning walking around the town of Akureyri before returning to the ship for lunch. In the afternoon we went on a tour that visited Gođafoss, the waterfall of the gods. When Thorgeir Thorkelsson, a former pagan priest, established Christianity as Iceland's primary religion he cast his idols of Oden, Freya, and other Nordic gods into the falls. Hence the name. We continue along Iceland's Route 1, the Ring Road, to the Laufas folk museum, a group of earthen roofed homes built into the hillside as protection from the harsh Icelandic weather. The vicar of a small community church lived here with family and farm workers. As we returned to town we stopped at the second most northerly botanical gardens in the world.Read more
