    Fort Lauderdale

    December 3, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

We took an overnight flight from Portland to Fort Lauderdale, and after a short Uber ride, we dropped our bags at our hotel. We spent the day exploring the shops along Las Olas Blvd. with an afternoon stop for gelato. In the evening, the street was lit up with a Christmas fair with music, food, and local vendors.Read more

  • Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos

    December 6, 2024 in Turks and Caicos Islands ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

We joined an excursion today to tour the island of Grand Turk with electric Hummers (think a golf cart with a fancier skin). The former economy was built on the salt trade, but today, it is almost entirely based on tourism.Read more

  • Amber Cove, Dominican Republic

    December 7, 2024 in Dominican Republic ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

Today, we joined a tour to visit Monkeyland, a nature preserve for squirrel monkeys. We were instructed not to scream or get overly excited when the monkeys jumped on us. Stacy had a hard time following the rules! A swarm of monkeys would jump on us as soon as the guide put food in our hands. Later on, we enjoyed a taste of the Dominican Republic: coffee, hot chocolate, and Mamajuana (a drink made with rum, sweet wine, honey, cinnamon, and medicinal wood). We stopped at a community craft fair to buy a few gifts and take in the handiwork of local artisans.Read more

Today, we began our two-day journey back to Fort Lauderdale. We had fun learning to line dance and enjoyed a relaxing day of reading and exploring the ship. This evening was the formal gala. When we returned to our room, our steward had Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer waiting for us on our bed.Read more

  • At Sea

    December 14, 2024, North Atlantic Ocean ⋅ 🌬 77 °F

We spent one more day at sea as we made our way toward Fort Lauderdale. The bakery staff made a variety of delicious cakes for an after-lunch surprise. We learned a few more line dance to work of the calories. During dinner, the officers serenaded us with Christmas carols. What about a future cruise? Why not!Read more
