Medieval Street

Here is a remnant of a medieval Street in the Left Bank. Notice the gutter in the middle of the lane. In medieval days, this was the sewer. The maids would open the windows, yell "garde de l'eau" (watch out for the water), and then dump the chamber pot into the street so that it runs down the drain to the end of the street and into the river.Read more
