• Our time in the Land of the Tswana

    May 11–17, 2025 in Botswana ☀️ 29 °C

Both David and I were intrigued by the traditional medicine stalls we drove past through Botswana on rote to Nata. Obviously we stopped, met with a Inyanga and his apprentice and got a better understanding of what Muti was on offer. Powders, roots, bulbs, seed pots, teas, infusions, ointments and nature talismans were available. After a short consultation with the medicine man, we purchased a drink to be taken over two days, three times a day to clean out our digestive and urinary systems. We both finished our muti as prescribed and experienced a very gentle “service” indeed.

Part of our exploration joyfully included tasting some local cuisine, and we fortunate to find street vendors with huge pots hiding tasty and filling delights. Shangi’s Kitchen and Snack-Zone kitchen were amongst our favorites.

In the moments that arise when we are not off botanizing, documenting, scanning and being mesmerized by mother nature, we are resting, removing thorns from happy feet, frolicking with fellow travelers and grabbing a paddle enjoying Nata River by canoe. Eselbe Camp Backpackers thank you for being spectacular, we will see you again dear Rupert, for a delicious meal and to share many more stories together.
