• A day in Dubrovnik

    16 agosto 2024, Croazia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Our city tour started just outside the Old Town. Apparently today is the day to be here. On about 5 days in the year it occurs that there is not a cruise ship in town - and today is that day! The crowds are much less which is great for us. The tour of the Old Town was really interesting. This place has been ruled by different sovereign states (6 of them in the last 100 years) but has managed to maintain its own identity. The worst damage was caused in 1667 with an earthquake which flattened all but two buildings and then 1991 when they broke from Yugoslavia. We went around much of the town and found out about its history from 12thC onwards. Quite an amazing little place. Then caught the cable car up to the top of the mountain for some spectacular views. Lunch at a sandwich bar where they are famous for their home made bread. Then I collapsed for a bit while Ian toured some of the local museums. The heat is stifling and it is very humid - a worry if I am complaining about the heat! Went out to for a lovely meal to one of the local seafood restaurants - a tip from our guide.Leggi altro
