Hot air balloons … FINALLY!

We watched the hot air balloons in Cappadocia, Turkey and knew we wanted to get on one. We made plans for Egypt and then the weather let us down … twice. But today was the day! We finally made it on a hot air balloon this morning and what a beautiful site it was.

Chiang Mai is in the very northern border of Thailand and is surrounded by mountains. We couldn’t have asked for a better day weather wise. No wind, wonderful temperature and beautiful location.

It was scary, thrilling, exhilarating and eventually so very peaceful. We were two of 6 in the basket + the pilot, so a small intimate group. They launched just two balloons. At times you could hear a pin drop it was so quiet up there. We climbed to 2000 ft and spent just about an hour in the air.

This is the only licensed hot air balloon company in all of Thailand - been in operation 17 years. Our pilot was amazing and so entertaining.
