  • Canadian Potato Museum 2

    September 9, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Photos from the general antiques side of the museum. I bought a jar of margarita tequila marmalade here... mainly for the sake of the hand painted jar which I want to use later to put some red sand and a few shells, rocks or sea glass to display as a souvenir.Read more

  • Bottle Houses - The Chapel

    September 9, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

(The first couple of photos are from out front in the parking lot. The other 4 are of the chapel.)

This was the third building constructed with approximately 10,000 bottles, in 1983.  At sunset, a symphony of light and colors streams in from behind the altar. Visitors are likely to sense a feeling of peace and tranquillity as they admire the final chapter of Arsenault's work.Read more

  • Bottle Houses - The Six Gabled House

    September 9, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

The first bottle house, built in 1980 out of approximately 12,000 bottles; it measures 20 feet x 14 feet with three main sections. Its six gables and the patterns produced by the careful choosing of colors and sizes of bottles truly makes this a unique building.Read more

  • Bottle Houses - The Tavern

    September 9, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

The second building, built in 1982, with approximately 8,000 bottles. In this tavern-like hexagonal structure, one can admire a large selection of bottles collected by Edouard.  Whenever he came across a bottle that had a special feature, he preferred to keep it for display rather than using it in the construction.Read more

  • Bottle Houses - Gardens

    September 9, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

This is just a small taste of the gorgeous gardens all around the property. The small lighthouse is a small replica of the Lighthouse we were just at. The man who made these bottle houses used to be the Egemont Lighthouse keeper until it was automated.Read more

  • Augustine Cove - Confederation bridge

    September 9, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Some photos of the bridge from PEI to New Brunswick from Augustine Cove. We will be crossing this bridge shortly. It's not very exciting photos when taken from my phone. Hopefully Matt's shots with the good camera are more interesting than this. It looks way better in person than the photos.

Oh and um, that last photo of the bridge is actually from our previous stop but I forgot to add it and so I am just shoving it here out of laziness.

The Confederation Bridge is the world’s longest bridge over ice-covered water at 12.9 km.

  • Auberge Gabriele

    September 10, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 4 °C

Our lovely place to sleep last night. We decided it smelled good downstairs so we decided to eat in the attached restaurant for dinner. While the service was quite slow (I think it was near a half hour before we got our orders taken), the food was good. We weren't in a rush anyway. I finally got to to have my lobster supper! Lobster Bib and all! (Sorry, no selfie with the bib, oops). Matt had ribs. I think he has already had enough seafood and was looking forward to beef today. Speaking of food, time for some breakfast.Read more

  • Bienvenue a Quebec!

    September 10, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Across the bridge from Campbellton is the province of Quebec. Since I have never been to Quebec, I knew I had to cross the bridge, if for no other reason than to be able to say I have stepped foot in Quebec.

Mission accomplished! There is a National Historic Site nearby so we are going to zip over there to check it out before returning to New Brunswick.

  • St Hubert Express - Bathurst

    September 10, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Back when I used to work for Telus providing directory assistance services, I would get a lot of calls from the province of Quebec requesting the phone number for their local St Hubert. So although I have never been to Eastern Canada, I became very familiar with St Hubert. It's one of those chains where each franchisee registered their name in the phone book slightly different so it was sometimes a pain to find. St Hubert BBQ, Rotisserie St. Hubert, Barbeque Saint Hubert, St Hubert Express... St with or without the dot... or sometimes Saint.... you get the idea. Back then there was no Google smart search... you had to type it right or it didn't find it.

Anyway, now I will finally be able to say I have eaten at a St Hubert. It may not be in Quebec, but close enough. We ordered our food to go, and we are going to go find a park to eat it.

  • Battle of Restigouche Nat'l H.S.

    September 10, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

We didn't know what expect at this stop because we didn't really know what it was. It turned out to be quite interesting.

For 200 years, the wreck of the Machault, a 26-gun military sailing vessel charged with protecting merchant vessels from the British, has remained under water. At the Battle of Restigouche National Historic Site, it is now possible to admire the ship’s remains and to relive the last naval battle between France and Britain for possession of North American territory.

  • Super 8 - Campbellton

    September 11, 2018 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Ooops. Sorry folks. I totally forgot to take any photos last night. We just stayed at a Super 8, nothing exciting.

We took the evening to really just relax. We went to the pool, soaked in the hot tub, sat in the sauna, read a book etc... We didn't even go for dinner. We ate snacks in the car and weren't really hungry for a meal.Read more
