Left Okotoks and made it through Canmore, Banff, Icefields Parkway, Jasper and stopped for the night just 30 minutes down the Yellowhead at a trailhead parking area. It was perfect!
Quiet, secluded and dark 🥰 no cell service and the occasional sound of the train in the distance.Read more

  • McBride BC

    Nov 16–17, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ❄️ -2 °C

Snowstorm alert! Drove one hour and stopped for the night as a big storm was passing by where we were and where we were going. Spent a windy, snowy night behind Matt’s hotel and off sale shop (with friendly permission from Matt) and ate local pizza and visited all the shops in town including the Train Station visitor centre next to -of course- the railway tracks.Read more

  • Prince George BC

    Nov 17–18, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 1 °C

After a slow ride behind Stan the snowplow driver (best place to be when the roads are slushy) we decided to stop into Canadian Tire to upgrade our heater 🤣 because camping in the winter is fun, they said. Anyhoo, stayed the night in the area for convenience and celebrated the approximate halfway mark to Prince Rupert, our ferry destination. Ps. Stopped at a rest stop and the garbage can was about 20ft from the parking spot through a few feet of slushy snow. 🤣 needless to say the garbage had to wait.Read more

Just another night after a day on the road. Did some grocery shopping, watched some shows, had some soup, slept and hit the road again. ♥️

  • Terrace BC

    Nov 19–20, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 2 °C

Stocked up on fresh groceries, unloaded some garbage, cleaned the headlights, visited Walmart 3 times and parked in a quiet corner next to some grass and trees. Uneventful but also enjoyable. It’s such a beautiful part of the country…the views are incredible and photos don’t do them justice. We pull over at a lot of the viewpoint stops as good tourists do…but there are so many! The Skeena River is wide, rough and quite a sight. Visit if you can! It’s worth it.Read more

  • The homestead and the animals.

    November 22, 2024 in Canada ⋅ 🌬 6 °C

Welcome to the homestead! We made it to where we will spend the next 2ish months and we are happy to be calling this place home. A park trailer for us and 2 pups, a log cabin for 2 more pups, a Motorhome, affectionately called the Kitty Palace for Mamacita the cat, 80 acres for 2 horses and a c-can foldable home for a future studio/guest house. Roads, hills, trees, moss, creeks, ponds, gardens, eagles, deer, bears (not yet seen by us), rodents, birds, the occasional logging truck and so much more. All half a mile from the beach/ocean! The darkest skies I’ve ever seen, stars galore, the milky way, rain, wind and EVERYTHING is wet all the time. 😂 It’s an adventure!Read more

  • Tlell

    December 1, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Quick drive to a nearby village with 2 stores that we found. The Crystal Cabin that sold gems, jewellery, clothing, art and artifacts all locally made or found. A cute collection to browse! The other store is the Sitka Gallery that had food, books, art, home decor, some free trade type items and art supplies. Good to know if I run out of stuff! They had chickens free roaming and a lovely view. We will be back I’m sure. ♥️Read more

  • Masset and Old Masset

    December 6, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Road trip! Went to ALMOST the end of the road (Yellowhead hwy) here on Haida Gwaii. It’s the last place that has anything notable…food truck, grocery store, hardware store and a farmer’s market that’s on Friday’s from 11-2 all year long. Funny little place on the north side of Graham Island (not an island at all but an archipelago). It also has an RCMP outpost, a fire hall, a landfill, and a tsunami escape route 😳Read more

  • Jags Day!

    December 9, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

We LOVE this coffee shop. It’s closed on weekends so on Monday’s I’m pretty excited for a Jags day! The coffee, the baking and the breakfasts are all delicious. The staff is friendly, the ambiance is pleasant, the views are awesome, and…the bathrooms have flush toilets and running water. What more could we ask for? 😆Read more

  • A day in DG

    December 19, 2024 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 7 °C

Some scenic shots but also pics of the shops, sculpture, housing and hotel. We keep our eyes peeled for whales and bears and seals and eagles. We shower, we shop, we launder, we explore and always stumble on something worth mentioning. Today it was a bookstore at the edge of a small side road, almost at the dead end, just there, waiting for people to discover it. “Which 3rd St. Bookstore” is the name. As if there might be two lolRead more

  • Sunny days and windy nights

    December 27, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

Hurricane force winds threatened many trees, homes and power lines on the island a couple days ago. We faired just fine being off the grid in a field/forest that’s already been logged. We cleared the road where trees still stand and had a great day in Masset. Beautiful sunny skies, lunch at the taco truck and some time away from the duties of homesteading.Read more

  • The homestead and the animals. Pt 3.

    December 30, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

Mommaceta makes her first appearance! That’s the cat that lives in the Kitty Palace. She’s a cutie. The tree that fell in the Christmas Day windstorm that made us pack a chainsaw from now on. Also Meisha the 4 legged senior here. The transfer station raven. Clem and the horses. Pearl, Wave and Lelu on the beach. Some Bald eagles, a sunset, and Tito of course.Read more

What a great solo trip to Tlell! I saw Tlell beach, the Tlell river, Naikoon Provincial Park, the Haida House (spot to stay and dine in a gorgeous location), and Jungle Beach where a found my first rock to take home. Then when I returned to the homestead I was greeted by a beauty rainbow! ♥️Read more

  • House sit, check! Masset & Tow Hill

    Feb 2–5, 2025 in Canada ⋅ 🌬 -5 °C

It’s been a while since an update. Things went on pretty much the same. Dogs, cat, horses, poop, propane, water shortage, dog slobber, more poop, feedings, laundry, dock showers, more poop, more laundry, a power outage and house fire averted, horses dewormed, more propane, beach visits, more slobber, Jags day, wind and snow….nothing too new or noteworthy for an off grid, no running water, multi pet, multi unit, sketchy heat sourced homestead sit! 🤣
We were counting down the sleeps until we were free to move on somewhere around my last post. We drove away Feb 2nd and went to Masset so we could camp and plug in the van for a few days during the Haida Gwaii cold snap of 2025. And here we are. Relaxing (but chilly) and petless. Ahhh….
Also drove to Tow Hill, Agate Beach, North Beach and saw the “Elephant cage” of communications used during the Cold War to watch for Russian submarines. Very cool!
On a positive note, neither of us had any severe issues with our pet allergies 👍🏼

  • DG once again

    Feb 5–10, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 3 °C

We enjoyed exploring more of the area we spent so much time in. Up a logging road to Kagan Bay where we had a fire and lots of outdoor time on the beach. What a great day! We spent couple nights at the campground by the beach, a couple nights at the museum and one night at Jags (which included breakfast the next day!).Read more

  • Moresby Island and Sandspit

    February 8, 2025 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 4 °C

Took the ferry to the other island and explored! An amazing number of people live there considering they have a post office and one store. The store has everything from pet supplies to household accessories to groceries to booze but still…lol. It also has the local airport so I suppose that’s a selling feature for some! We went on a long drive up a logging road, Grey Bay bound, but it was just too long and the snow was getting thicker so we turned around. Very cool views so it was not for nothing. And people live there. In trailers and cabins and shacks.Read more
