    7–8 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 8 °C

After a great day on the road we settled into our camp spot early to enjoy a home cooked supper. The drive today was full of sunshine and strong winds (45mph but felt like more…). We could barely get the truck doors open to get in and out. It was a white knuckle hold on the steering wheel for over an hour 😫. Billings was a highlight for sure! We didn’t go down into town but the vantage point from the lookout was amazing. Also, I would have liked to go see if Rip was in town but it was a long way down for the old girl (the truck haha) so I’ll have to settle for the new season of Yellowstone to get my fill.Leer más

  • Cheyenne Wyoming

    8–9 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

So….turns out not everyday is a fun day on the road 😂 today we were both tired after a lousy nights sleep. We slept in a little and were pretty grouchy most of the day so we called it done early (but actually made some good time as the day was sunny and scenic!) and found a camp spot in town. After a long hot shower each and dinner, we feel like a hundred bucks. Here’s hoping tomorrow is more enjoyable and we can get a bit further along on the journey 🥰

ps. Didn’t take a single picture today…so left an oldie but a goodie there for something to look at.

  • Raton New Mexico

    9–10 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 6 °C

Road tripping gives you a lot of time to think. We are doing our best to spend time thinking about the future and this simple life we have created for ourselves. It’s a learning curve for sure! I realized when I left Okotoks that I didn’t have much left on my to-do list and I felt a bit freaked out about it. Clem reminded me that I’d done a wonderful job of getting us to where we were and I deserved a break from the to-do list. It feels good. 🥰 #retiredlifestyle #firsttimesnowbirds #howmanybeachescanwehitLeer más

  • Albuquerque New Mexico (Bernalillo)

    10–12 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Stopped in North Albuquerque for the night (again at a KOA campground). We drove through some mountains today in a snowstorm! Did our first American grocery shop in Santa Fe (also in a snowstorm). Thankfully it didn’t stay on the ground…
The terrain here is a bit desert like and has more forest than the previous three states. It’s going to be fun once we unload the e-bikes! Whoop!
Tomorrow we are going to find some BLM land to stay on for a longer stretch as the weather looks to be above zero, and even high teens during the day, for 10ish days. We will be testing our off grid capabilities for sure.
It was a great day on the road and we are excited to be so far south. 🥰

  • Amarillo Texas

    12–14 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

We are happy to be in Texas! Better roads, less garbage, thriving towns and more to see. And cheaper gas! New Mexico was a bit disappointing to be honest…depressed, filled with “ghost” towns, roads were so bad, and garbage was everywhere. Anyway, we plan to stay two nights here and then off to Oklahoma City! Only because it’s on the way to Waco 🥳 where we will likely stay for a couple weeks. 💕Leer más

  • Calumet/El Reno Oklahoma

    14–16 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Arrived at our campsite before supper, after our second grocery shop of the trip. The cupboards we pretty bare…
We are thrilled with the riverfront location so may stay awhile! Looks to be a good spot for bike riding and there’s a gift shop (Mom! Hahaha) and a restaurant close by offering a discount for campers 😋
We are sitting outside and enjoying the sun (although it’s starting to set and cool down a bit). I believe we will call this home for a few days. 🥰

Staying at the NRS (National Roper’s Supply) Ranch for a couple of nights with Harvest Hosts! Saw some calf roping today, went for a long bike ride on the property and saw a beautiful sunset. There’s a huge store that is everything cowboy! Almost 100,000sf of cowboy stuff 😂
It’s good to be back in Texas where the land is vast and the gas is cheap. 🥰

  • Waco Texas

    20–22 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Staying at Camp Fimfo in Waco for a couple days. It’s new, fancy and full of fifth wheels, high end cabins and teens on golf carts. It’s more of a resort than a campsite but it works for us! The bathrooms are clean and the laundry room is awesome. We stopped today at a Texas-famous bakery called Slovacek’s (Czech Stop). It had lots of fresh made buns stuffed with various combinations of fresh made sausage and cheese. Next stop was to Harbor Freight for a larger power station for longer stints of off grid camping. We are excited to head to the forest and the beach and still enjoy all the comforts of home (coffee, toast etc 😂) even if there’s no sun! Magnolia Market has been on my bucket list for a long time and I’m so pumped to get there sometime in the next week or so! Whoop! 🥰🥰🥰Leer más

  • Lake Waco Texas

    22–25 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Ahhhhh Lake Waco…the sound of the water, the cool breeze, the sun, the trees….I’m in heaven. It’s just a taste of what’s to come. The ocean is so close and I can’t wait to get there. But first, The Silos! And Hotel 1928! The have rooms available but there are $425USD a night so maybe just a coffee and a muffin on the rooftop patio 🤣Leer más

  • Cracker Barrel baby!

    25–26 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Country southern cooking at its finest 😂 I’ve missed you Cracker Barrel!
After lunch we called the Manager to ask if we could stay overnight in the parking lot so we could have breakfast too 😋 (he said yes of course).
We checked out of the Lake Waco camp spot and tomorrow we are back to Fimfo as it’s the closest accommodations to Magnolia and the laundry and bathrooms were awesome (at Lake Waco we were showering with wasp nests, many spiders and moths….the bathrooms were so gross lol so we cancelled our week long stay there for next week). I’m disappointed as the views and spots were amazing, but bathrooms are important 😅
Ps. Had to add pics of my favourite twins, Emma and Sophia, from our FaceTime this week 💕 Miss those little munchkins!

  • Camp Fimfo again

    26–29 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Magnolia day! We are off to shop the market, Fernies, coffee shop, Magnolia Home and whatever else is there! So pumped to see it all in person. Lunch at the market, and then (if we last that long) dinner at Hotel 1928. That’s a strong maybe though…as the food looks kinda weird for Clem’s tastes and the prices are outrageous I’m sure. Maybe just a sparkling water and some selfies 🤣 I’ll keep you posted.Leer más

  • Temple Texas

    29–30 nov. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

At the Walker Honey Farm & Dancing Bee Winery courtesy of Harvest Hosts tonight. It’s a lovely little farm off the highway with a gift shop featuring honey everything and Mead wine on tap. I sampled 4 different wines on arrival. A cider Mead warmed, a red Syrah with honey at room temp, an espresso Mead at room temp, and a Mead Sangria with orange and raspberries. The sangria was my favourite! This seems to be a migratory path for a large group of birds…there are at least 10,000 outside the camper on the trees and cattails. I believe they are starlings. AMAZING. Clem is loving it. 💕Leer más

  • La Grange Texas

    30 nov.–1 dic. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Harvest Host Mullins Prairie Store is a cute restaurant on many acres about 5 miles out of town. It’s friendly and offers live music and an event centre on beautiful property with some huge trees!
We detoured through Round Top (population 90!) today even though it was raining and Thursday…nothing much happens there when it’s not one of the 3 a year antique sales, or at least a weekend…but it was nice to see! Lots of homes that looked like hoarders but probably open up for weekend sales lol and some cute-ish restaurants but we just kept driving.
    Closed. Closed. Closed.
We are settled in for the night: a stopover on our way to Corpus Christi.

  • Corpus Christi Texas. The beach.

    2–4 dic. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Made it to the Gulf of Mexico! It’s warm, a bit overcast, windy and it feels like heaven 🥰
We had a day pass to Padre Island to check out the beach camping spots and the views. Amazing! It’s protected land and we saw 2 or 3 residences but they must have been there a very long time…rundown salty shacks with a bunch of horses and cows. We will camp out there for sure when the sun is out for a few days ☀️ because, solar.

At a campsite for the weekend with power to charge all our portable power and showers 🚿 because, ew.

Living at the beach! We can stay here for 3 nights so we will enjoy it while we can 🥰 already had a bike ride through the tides and ate a great home cooked dinner (if I do say so myself 😂) to the sounds of the waves. We will ride into town tomorrow to check it out. We saw shops and restaurants pretty close by. Lunch out maybe 🤔Leer más

Time to recharge the batteries, shower, do laundry and get cleaned up. Today we did all that, I also went for a swim in the pool here, discovered our fridge fan condenser is on the fritz 😬 so I guess we’ll have to have that looked at. Sigh. Vanlife.
The good news is we are heading back to the beach tomorrow! ☀️🥰

Back at the beach! Can’t get enough of this place. As long as the long arm of the Texas law (aka the beach parking police) don’t kick us out for staying too many nights in a row…we will stay as long as can! 🏝️

    😘
Edit: after a horrendous wind/sand storm that had sand in places I had forgotten about…we really need to clean up. Us, the bikes and the home on wheels 😬 we will return soon I’m sure!

  • The Place Hotel, Port Aransas

    12–15 dic. 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Hotel time! We decided to check into a hotel for a couple days because they are cheaper than the campsites here and we need to do chores lol
It’s an amazing space that would fit 8 of our little house in it 😂
Earlier today we tried to get to a campground called Corpus Christi RV Park just to check it out and maybe book it for a week or so. On the way we got stopped at a gate by the armed Military, they took my DL, did a walk around of the truck, recorded the plate and DL info, then stopped 2 lanes of traffic so we could turn around a go back to where we came from. Apparently that particular campground was not for civilians. I guess we’ll find somewhere else 🤣
As usual, I’m looking forward to getting back to the beach in a couple days 🏖️
    Just now…FaceTime with the twins!

We arrived here after a lovely hotel stay and planned to stay a week. So many things promised but not achieved. No showers. No laundry. Outdoor kitchen was a mess and had cockroaches. Smelled of sewer (all Clem as my sniffer is defective). No wifi. No one on duty to complain to. After a couple phone calls we got a refund and stayed the night anyway. Tomorrow, back to the beach 🏖️
Meme of a duck because I have no photo to share. The pool pictures posted tomorrow were here though! The one redeeming quality of the “resort”…
