Paris to Prague

Un’avventura di 25 giorni di Sandra & Mark Leggi altro
  • Anne Frank

    7 luglio 2018, Olanda ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Who knew Amsterdam is like Venice. It exists off canals; house boats, waterways running like ‘onion rings’ around the historic centre. Bikes is how you get around if not by barge. The ancient buildings, each different from the next juxtaposed against the uniformity of Paris, is still very appealing though; eclectic.

We heard the bells Anne frank heard when she was hiding, saw her building although the facade has been modernised (the photo from the barge). Learnt that coffee shops sell weed and cafes, coffee. Advised not to mix them up. And told the shops with red canopies were selling services we may be affronted with.

So much culture. So very interesting.

  • Lockes, Horses & Towns

    7 luglio 2018, Olanda ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Our first Locke. It is like moving through a dam. Had me run to the top deck to watch although I dare say I won’t be so keen by the 20th passing.

I’m watching beaches with swimmers, and cows, and brumbies!! Yes horses. Wild. In Europe. Unsure why I am surprised.

The last town we passed was somewhat reminiscent to maitland. But bigger; and older; and more European. 😆

    Leaving Amsterdam 😥

  • Changed our boat for a bike

    8 luglio 2018, Germania ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Absolutely significant. Seeing Germany away from tourist areas; getting to witness homes and neatness and pride , parks with families and children playing, small local farms with asparagus, wheat and spinach .... this was a look at now as opposed to the history we have been seeing and enjoying. With our big bike group however, I’m not so sure the enjoyment was returned and learnt some German of which I will not repeat here.

  • Fairy Tale Castle Dinner Anarchy

    8 luglio 2018, Germania ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

The stone walls, cast gates, tree lined drive all leading to Namedy Castle. Sun setting, excitement brewing, champagne, endless course dinner, chamber music .... a highlight of our cruise.

Direction change. Surprise is a good descriptive word. Now the ambulance is invited; no two; now the evac chopper and hazmat team. An airlift for unconsciousness and hospitalisation for vomiting during dinner.

Am I feeling queezy because of the smell or fear of sharing this bug?

  • Dreamlike Beauty and Music

    9 luglio 2018, Germania ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Someone has snuck in overnight and beaten me with a baseball bat ?😕 Yer... probably not. I’m debating if this is the result of too many pastries or if I am not as well as I hoped. Mark is googling Novo Virus; I’m sleeping through the most historic and beautiful length of the river Main. (I have, however, cropped the few pics I took as consciousness visited briefly through that day so the cabin chair and window aren’t predominant). Anyone vomiting are now confined to their cabins until 24 hours after symptoms stop.

Nope. No vomit here. An afternoon tour sounds doable. The music box museum. Fascinating but I am more fascinated by the man bag mark has emptied for me to possibly use as a cold sweat runs through me. Ditch the tour back to the ship, to bed and wake up four meals later.

  • Miltenburg & Onboard Medic Free

    10 luglio 2018, Germania ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Bovaria. Fun guide to emerge to land with. Showed us timber house construct packed with “sweet roses” (horse poo), a witches house only called so as it was a springboard for the motive of burning people you envied and he could show us where on the wall that happened, and a brewery ....after so many missed meals, the snapps tasted great but my land legs turned sea legs instantly.

The well where locals got water (and whatever else washed down there) and the boys “peeing in the stairs” statue was a highlight though. Felt a price of home right there with me.

  • Chocolate Bananas

    11 luglio 2018, Germania ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

    Story time;

A Prince Bishop lived at Warzburg on a hill (pic1) and thought he would save the town money by building a palace closer... less time to get the groceries... so he built castle two (pic2). I would be quite content living in pic 3 really. Unfortunately, he died before it was finished (so no cheap burger runs for him).

As our guide unpacked this story, Kilian Celebration was in full swing (vid 1) and very loud. As for what or whom St Kilian was, one word, google.

Our time through the markets educated us in fresh food we could not identify. A Chocolate coated banana had our name on it and fresh roses had Emese’s, our cruise director, who has been responsible for so much in this trip.

  • Cherries with Zues

    12 luglio 2018, Germania ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Little Venice in Bamburg, elite Germany, churches that took so long to build, the back has one style, the front another, rose gardens built seven stories high for Napoleons wife (who never visited), storybook river scenes through the old town, Smokey beer which we will have to imagine how it tastes as marks belly is tag teaming mine in queezy city, and a sunny spot in the modern square eating cherries so fresh I could taste sun.

  • Cruise Crash

    13 luglio 2018, Germania ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Last night Ammaverde hit a bridge. The wheelhouse didn’t lower into the barge. Police were involved.

This morning, our English friends mobile rings at the tower of the old wall. Their son in law has died. They are going home now.

We are mid changing ships to the Ammabella, the solution to a low river problem with neither ship now needing to pass the water shed line where a tanker ran aground.

    Live with expectancy; not expectation.

  • Pooped on big bad ideas

    13 luglio 2018, Germania ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Not the tour I would have chosen. We are mid ship transfer and stop at Hitlers parade grounds. I am annoyed for the political interruption of an already intense Europe visit. But, I walk away satisfied. Our German guide unpacks with cultural freedom and great perspective. She rises above agenda and admonishes against propaganda. She is wise and empathetic to our Australian group. And we walk from hitlers parade ground observing the irony that the only parade now is Canadian Geese who leave large deposits.

Leadership hinges on who chooses to follow otherwise you are just taking a walk.

  • Dirndl City

    14 luglio 2018, Germania ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Alleys where shoulders can almost touch each building, passing cars drive on the curb so we can pass, drindl and laderhosen everywhere, biggest organ in the world, red potted geraniums all all possible places, Passau, after floods and fires, is neat and new(er) and very story book. Glacial reasons makes the river smell like the ocean, there are picnics and full cafes, Saturday markets .... very holiday.
