  • Mozart Was Here

    16. juli 2018, Østerrike ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

His birthplace, his second home, and the memorial which makes him look taller with smaller ears, nose and less polio scaring. His music way overcompensates. His beauty transcends physical elements.

  • Sound of Music

    16. juli 2018, Østerrike ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

All scenes from the movie. All very surreal to see. Our guide crushed a few of my romantic notions and liberties taken by Hollywood, BUT, I am leaving wanting to watch the movie again. Salzburg has a lot to see.

  • Melk. Where i Could Live

    16. juli 2018, Østerrike ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

The Benadictine monks are still working in a property given to them not long after Christ. No history lessons are needed here.... documentation and learning happens from the standing stones left from previous generations... bodies pulled from the catacombs decorated and in the church, evidence via broken castles of the 30 year war if the 1600 against Protestants and Catholics, and solid beauty and prosperity in the building. History all written in stone. No paper needed.

The herb healing garden with centuries of knowing is a highlight, the church opulence overwhelming. A town not overrun by tourism. Genuine feel that I could unpack slowly.

  • Bike Austria

    16. juli 2018, Østerrike ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

There is no better way to see Europe than by bike. Riding under wild apricot and spoke trees along the river, through rain which added to the charm, across a punt generated by the river current and through a town translated into English ‘white Church’ that is so story book, so charming, so European I feel like I’m walking through a movie.

  • Popped in on the Hapsburgs

    18. juli 2018, Tsjekkisk Republikk ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

Whilst we were here. Thought we would call in to their summer house in the country, out if the city noise, limits; you know, the second castle 20kms down the road we all have. They weren’t home. Shame. Staff looked after us though. Saw 10 ish rooms of the 1400 here although didn’t have enough time for the private zoo, pool, or picnic house. Next time. We can bring our eleven kids to play with their sixteen, although Mary Antoinette has literally lost her head so can’t count on seeing all of them.

  • Amabella Captains Dinner

    18. juli 2018, Ungarn ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

To eat at the captains table is such a fun idea. The honour though was to spend time with our amazing cruise director Emese. We have not had smooth sailing. There has been large problem on the heels of medical emergencies. She has found Ken when he got lost, implemented medical evacuations, quarantined over fifty guests, not all happy with that choice, walked through a ship crashing into a bridge, clothed guests separated from their luggage, and then the usual, full day of entertaining, organising and catering to our needs. She was momma to 150 people, was our emotional thermostat (as opposed to thermometer) always with a sunny attitude, radiated strength and confidence, and treated everyone with respect and value.

We all love her. Our Captain sailed us from Passau to Budapest and that is admirable.... and we are thankful for dry feet. But she is our hero. She kept us all afloat.
